Building strategy-driven brands for Designers, Architects and Photographers | Helping you attract the work you want

5 things I’d do if I had 0 branding budget. I wouldn’t let people make assumptions about my creative business. I’d build a reputation I want to be known for. Here’s what I’d do: 1) I’d focus on what I can do, instead of what I can’t Starting with messaging. - Who is the business for? - How do I help them? - What does the solution look like? This will affect: - How I talk about the business - What I need to do to connect with ideal clients 2) I’d nail systems and processes - The client experience is an important part of branding. - From the initial consultation to closing a project. - A positive experience will increase potential referrers. - Helping me build a professional reputation. 3) Be consistent I’d make note of: - Fonts used for headings, subheadings, paragraph text and button styles - Colour palette hex codes (i.e#f32500) - Inconsistencies look messy and lack attention to detail. - Creating a recognisable brand allows people to identify the business. 4) I’d focus on objectives - I want to stand out to the right people. - So my brand has to resonate with them. - Whether that’s ethos, approach or purpose; my values has to connect with my ideal client. I’d look at how I could communicate this through my actions and messaging. 5) I’d start building a reputation as an expert - I would continue to learn and develop skills that are valuable to my clients. - This will increase the quality of my services. - I’d then write about my niche and share content demonstrating my expertise. - I’m marketing the business and communicating my strengths. There’s always things you can do to improve your brand. Even if you are on a budget. Is there anything you’d add? #brandingtips #brandstrategy #designstudio #personalbranding #creativestartup

Building strategy-driven brands for Designers, Architects and Photographers | Helping you attract the work you want

“How do I find my niche?” It’s a question I often get asked by creative businesses. Specialising in a niche means your services offer a solution to a specific client. It could be defined by location, design style or the type of project. Your niche is a combination of 3 things: 1) What you’re passionate about (you want to enjoy your work) 2) What you’re good at (clients are looking for results) 3) What the world needs (there has to be a need for your services) Here’s how to get started: 1) Pick 3 projects from your portfolio (that you want to do more of) 2) Analyse these projects - Who was the client? (location, age, gender, budget) - What were their pain points? (what were they struggling with) - Why did they choose you? (what made them say ‘yes’) - How did you help? (what did you do and why) 3) Write your mission statement 4) Adjust your services/processes accordingly 5) Demonstrate skills and knowledge that’s relevant to your niche You want to do work you enjoy, but you have to be good at what you do. Combine your passion with your strengths. Any questions? #brandingtips #personalbranding #interiordesigner #gardendesigner #freelancephotographer

Want help building your brand? Here’s what you should consider before investing in branding. 1) Think about how you want to work - Are you happy to work with multiple people in a studio setting - Or would you rather the 1-1 support of a freelancer 2) Look at value as well as price - Branding as an investment - Ask questions about deliverables and the design process - Find out how your business will benefit 3) Work with a branding specialist - Branding is more than a logo, font or colour palette - A specialist will offer brand strategy as well as visual identity - Have a look at their services and portfolio but also the design process Building your brand should be a fun, empowering and rewarding experience. Building strategy-driven brands for Designers, Architects and Photographers | Helping you attract the work you want

Being consistent isn’t about motivation, it’s about being organised. I have posted on LinkedIn 5 days a week for the last 8 months. It’s something that's become easy to me. Part of my weekly routine. I put it down to being more intentional with my time. This is what I do: 1) On Monday I write 5 posts for the following week (1hr) 2) On Friday I edit and schedule these posts (15mins) This year I wanted to focus on small habits. They feel less overwhelming and are easier to be consistent with. Branding is only effective when you consistently work on it. That was my motivation for posting. And now it’s become part of my routine, I’m starting to see the benefits. 7 things I’ve learnt since I started posting: 1) Write valuable content with the viewer in mind 2) Focus on what you want to be known for 3) Have a bank of ideas and inspiration 4) Don’t overthink, write as you speak 5) Repurpose content 6) Batch create 7) Schedule posts Is there anything you'd add? #branddesigner #linkedincreator #linkedinposts #creativeentrepreneur #creativecareer

Building strategy-driven brands for Designers, Architects and Photographers | Helping you attract the work you want

I wasn’t experienced enough to start a design business. But 2 years ago I still launched Studio Sulis. Why? Around that time I was researching into different careers. I was bored of doing small graphic design jobs. So I started connecting with other designers, strategists and creatives. They were creating their own path. I was excited to do the same. This is what I did: - Read a lot about brand strategy - Learnt how to code - Did passion projects - Took business-related webinars - Developed a niche - Asked for feedback - Researched my ideal client - Curated a portfolio that aligned with the work I wanted to attract - Learnt about marketing - Reached out to other designers - Streamlined my processes - Created services designed for my ideal client - Continued to develop my design skills - Connected and engaged with other creative businesses I knew I had work to do. Now Studio Sulis builds brands for interior designers, architects, garden designers and photographers. Offering services in brand strategy, graphic design and website design. Key takeaways 1) Networking creates opportunities to learn from others and connect with like-minded people. 2) Be prepared to put in the work. You will make mistakes along the way but it’s how you learn from them. #branddesign #designstudio #branddesigner #brandstrategist #personalbranding
