📢 We welcome the Government’s announcement that disposable vapes will be banned in England from June 2025. Disposable vapes are an increasing problem in our waste facilities across the country, with millions thrown away every year presenting a major fire risk. When they are thrown away with the general rubbish, or mixed with other recycling, the batteries in disposable vapes can cause serious fires once collected, which poses a significant threat to workers at waste management sites. The ban is a positive step which will protect workers, help reduce the UK’s growing electrical waste problem and lessen our impact on the environment. #disposablevapes #vapesban #fireprevention #batteriesfire

📢 An interesting #podcast from The Restart Project with Sarah Ottaway featured in this episode on #reuse. Sarah shares a few insights from our latest research according to which the majority of visitors to the HWRCs were already regular users of the on-site reuse shop. Those who weren’t using the shop were already engaging in similar activities eg. charity shopping and buying second hand. #SustainableHabits

📢 We're creating social value from waste in Greater Manchester! Recently, our Chairman and global CEO Sabrina Soussan, presented Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, with our annual donation of £100,000, to go towards the Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity, set up to help tackle homelessness across the city-region. The donation is raised through the award-winning Renew project, a joint initiative between SUEZ and Recycle for Greater Manchester to create value from waste to benefit local people. Residents can drop off items at local SUEZ-operated recycling centres, which are repaired at the Renew Hub and then sold in the region's three Renew shops, with proceeds going to good causes in the community. Since starting our contract five years ago, we've donated a total of £400,000 to the Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity. 👉 https://lnkd.in/e6zYrEQs #Charity #SocialValue #Reuse #TripleBottomLine

Today we have published new research, in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy, into what motivates our re-use shop customers to buy second-hand items. Half of our customers surveyed revealed they were motivated by environmental reasons, with 20% inspired by saving money. As part of our ongoing investment into the development of our services and growing re-use network, we set out to explore what drives people to buy reused items. Keep Britain Tidy conducted the research on our behalf across our network of re-use shops, with face-to-face surveys taking place during May 2024 at 11 locations in Greater Manchester, Surrey, Devon, Calderdale and Aberdeen.
