What an exciting end to another busy week at Surrey Research Park! 🌟 As one of the original eight founding members of UKSPA - The United Kingdom Science Park Association back in 1984, we were proud to continue this longstanding relationship. This week we represented the University of Surrey and contributed to the prestigious association's continued success by participating in #UKSPA40 — 40 years after its founding! Caroline Fleming, Director of Surrey Innovation District, and Kat Mack, Head of Engagement, attended #UKSPA40. There, they showcased to delegates from research and science parks across the UK what makes Surrey Research Park a unique community for pioneering businesses. 🌱 🌎 On Thursday, Caroline featured in an expert panel and shared key insights into overcoming sustainability challenges at research parks, focusing on the importance of: 💡 Educating businesses and adopting new technologies to enhance sustainability. 🤝Encouraging collaboration across our park community to collectively make progress. ⚡ Balancing the investment needed for retrofitting buildings while keeping rents affordable for early-stage businesses — ensuring everyone benefits from our pioneering community. Meanwhile, earlier today (Fri), Kat led a session titled Making Science Parks Inclusive. She shared some of the special ways Surrey Research Park supports the wellbeing and engagement of its Park community — all included as part of our unique customer offer. Kat gave an overview of our Early Careers Professional Network, which offers younger team members a fantastic opportunity to socialise and network — helping to make Fridays in the office or lab more fun and engaging, especially as this is when many colleagues will work from home. 👩💻 She also shared the ways we are helping to champion women in #STEM on the Park by highlighting some of the amazing women based here at our park. *** If your business is looking for a new base that supports sustainability goals, nurtures employee engagement, and provides access to an inspiring community of innovators, check out our website and get in touch. #SurreyResearchPark #UKSPA40 #Innovation #Sustainability #WomenInSTEM #ResearchParks #ThoughtLeadership #EmployeeEngagement

What a fantastic way to wrap up a space-themed week here at the Park! 🚀 After our Beyond Space event on Wednesday, we’re excited to share news from our partners at Space South Central and colleagues at Surrey Space Centre. Announced today, the pioneering JUPITER programme — a collaboration between the University of Surrey, University of Portsmouth, and University of Southampton — will give students the opportunity to design, build, and launch a real-world satellite mission 🛰🌍! With Surrey Space Centre playing a vital role, this programme will equip students with industry-proven spaceflight skills, helping to address the UK space sector’s growing need for specialist expertise. We're especially excited because Surrey Research Park is home to a thriving community of space companies. We look forward to supporting these businesses as they become the first to engage with the graduates and postgraduates who will have real-world space mission experience, thanks to the exciting JUPITER programme. #Space #Satellites #STEMskills #STEM #UKSpace #SurreyResearchPark #SpaceFlight #Collaboration #GoBeyondSpace #Guildford #Surrey #Learning
We have exciting new mission news! Jovian-1 will be the first satellite of JUPITER – the Joint Universities Programme for In-Orbit Training, Education and Research. The University of Surrey is coordinating, designing and delivering the mission, working closely with teams from the University of Portsmouth and the University of Southampton, two of its Space South Central partners. More than 20 students from the three universities will have the unique opportunity to help design and launch the satellite. One of the five payloads on Jovian-1 will be entirely designed, built, tested and delivered by students. Their payload, DAVE, will take images and videos of the Earth and attempt to use a space-facing camera to look for space debris. A key aim of the mission will be to equip its student participants with invaluable hands-on space experience and some of the skills for which the space sector is crying out. Professor Adam Amara, Director of Space Strategy at the University of Surrey, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for students and academics from three universities to work together on an ambitious project. “The JUPITER programme is a phenomenal way to further build the space skills in the UK’s South Central region and get people excited about space, the careers it offers, and the way it inspires people of all ages.” Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e8ckrvJR The photo shows some of the Surrey students involved in our Ground Station, which will play a crucial role when Jovian-1 launches.
