Sustainable Aviation Fuel Innovation Programme (SAF IP)
Chemical Manufacturing
Helping build and accelerate the UK Sustainable Aviation Fuel industry, through a network of innovators.
About us
The objective of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Innovation Programme (SAF IP) is to help build and accelerate the UK SAF industry. This programme will build a network of innovators, publish analysis and reports, help you access finance and investment and empower you with expert technical knowledge through dissemination, working groups and masterclasses. The SAF IP exists to support the ambitions of the Jet Zero Council to grow the UK SAF industry. Innovate UK KTN is the secretariat for the JZC SAF Delivery Group and works closely with the Department for Transport and industry to define the barriers and opportunities to developing the industry. The SAF IP will complement the work of the JZC SAFDG by delivering technical working groups to inform policy and investment decisions and act as a neutral, impartial partner to connect businesses to customers, innovators, funding and resources. In partnership with Department for Transport and Sustainable Aviation

Check out this new economic report from International Air Transport Association (IATA) 👇
Today we are very pleased to release International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s Net Zero CO2 Emissions Finance Roadmap 2024 at the World Sustainability Symposium in Miami. This is an updated version of the 2023 Finance Roadmap, where we provided detailed quantitative assessments on the finance needs in the immediate-, mid-, and long terms for the air transport industry to reach net zero CO2 emissions in 2050. In this roadmap, we addressed some key questions in financing air transport’s net zero transition, including: - how much additional costs the airline industry may have to face in adopting various mitigation levers in the transition? - how many new renewable fuel plants would be needed to make sure that airlines will have enough Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the energy transition process? - how much capex associated with the new plants would be required in the best- and the worst-case scenarios over 2024-2050? - Is this a mission impossible if we compare the capex needed with the capex that has been spent on the wind and solar energy sector? If any of the above questions is interesting to you, please take a look to the full report 👇 Many thanks to the guidance and support from the IATA Sustainability and Economics team that makes this work possible! Some impressive metrics from the US on their SAF development & driven by a collaborative interagency approach
Major updates for the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Grand Challenge aimed at reducing aviation emissions! The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) collaborates with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to release the SAF Grand Challenge: Tracking Metrics and Mid-2024 Dashboard Fact Sheet! Under the Biden-Harris Administration, domestic SAF production has grown 10x, from 5 million gallons/year in 2021 to 52 million gallons – just through the first six months of 2024. The momentum is building, and we are on track to meet or exceed our ambitious 2030 Grand Challenge target. Based on active projects, between 2.6 and 4.9 billion gallons per year of SAF may be produced domestically by 2030. Dive deeper into the Metrics Dashboard Fact Sheet to learn how this government and industry-wide effort plans to meet 100% of domestic aviation fuel demand with sustainable fuel by 2050. Learn more, and help us amplify this news by sharing it with your network! https://lnkd.in/ejcU6qMR

🛩 Exciting news last night as government approved the draft Renewable Transport Fuel Obligations (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) Order 2024, which was laid before the House on 24 July. A step closer to adoption of the mandate in 2025. This key policy development, alongside the revenue certainty mechanism, will enable the construction and investment of UK production plants. https://lnkd.in/ejPe2uuu

🌍✈️ Recognising the Power of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)✈️ 🌍 The aviation industry's path to net zero by 2050 is clearer with advancements in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). A recent BBC article highlights Sheffield University's SAF Innovation Centre, where cutting-edge research is transforming synthetic fuels into a viable alternative to fossil fuels. As demand for air travel grows, SAF presents a critical solution, offering near net-zero CO2 emissions and reduced particulates. While challenges remain in scaling production and reducing costs, the momentum is undeniable. The future of flight is sustainable, and SAF is leading the charge. #Sustainability #Aviation #Innovation #SAF #NetZero2050 https://lnkd.in/dsyWs8hr

Fantastic news from the US. Great to see this investment in #SAF
A major milestone for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF)! The Biden-Harris Administration has continued its commitment to advancing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF) by announcing nearly $300 million in Fueling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition (FAST) Grants. This significant investment from Federal Aviation Administration and U.S. Department of Transportation will help decarbonize the aviation sector and support the U.S. in achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. LanzaJet is proud to be among the recipients, with $3.1 million awarded to our Freedom Pines Fuels facility in Georgia. This funding will enable us to install key infrastructure that will increase our SAF production capacity by over 518,000 gallons annually. Such support is crucial as we work to scale SAF production and contribute to the SAF Grand Challenge goals. Government initiatives like these play a vital role in building the necessary foundation for a sustainable aviation industry. We’re committed to continuing our collaboration with the U.S. government and other stakeholders to ensure that SAF becomes a primary fuel source for aviation, reducing carbon emissions, and driving innovation across the sector. Special thanks to Reverend Raphael Warnock for U.S. Senate , Sen. Maria Cantwell, and Office of U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff for supporting this critical new grant program to support SAF! #sustainability #netzero #cleantech #infrastructure #aviation #FASTgrants #Georgia #US
