It's not everyday we get to work on a Knights Village sustainability standards, we can't imagine it was given much thought in the Medieval period! The Knights Village Hotel at Warwick Castle (Merlin Entertainments) is now BREEAM Certified. All of the rooms are medieval themed and on the grounds of the Warwick Castle originally built by William the Conqueror during 1068. Well done to Dominic Wong, Harry Collis and Adam Watkins and a huge thanks to everyone at RED Construction Group, in particular: Justin V. Sustainability Consultancy for the Built Environment
About us
We believe that if you understand your environmental targets, you will have a better understanding of their real-world impacts. This means you can deliver a better building design more effectively. We use the knowledge, skill and pragmatism of our team to simplify the process of environmental certification, energy modelling, life cycle carbon and whole life carbon analysis. We build lasting relationships with project teams using tools such as BREEAM, IES, SAP, OneClick. We help teams to optimise the use of these tools to improve the efficiency and quality of their buildings and reduce operational and embodied carbon, across all sectors and budgets.

The Croes Atti 2 Care Home in nearing completion under the watchful eye of Gillian Rumsey and Honey Owen. Based in Flint in North Wales this multi-residential (long-term) scheme will consist of circa 4000sqm of ensuite rooms, communal living and dining areas. With a heavy focus on material procurement and on LZC tech (PV and ASHPs) it was certified Excellent at Design Stage and is nearing practical completion. Lovely team onsite, and somehow it's always sunny when we visit! #sustainableconstruction

Working collaboratively with WiredScore, Gillian Rumsey completed the initial Wiredscore site inspection at the EMBARQ building with WiredScore's building engineers and the client Skelton Group Investments Limited They had a great day on site, boosting the connectivity of the building for future tenants (it's an active office building), whilst undergoing refurbishment on the lower levels where we're working towards BREEAM certification with ESTILO INTERIORS. Thanks everyone for a great day on site with the team! #sustainableconstruction #wiredscore

Our Director Matthew's observation from attending the Elmhurst Energy National Conference in Leicester yesterday was characterised by a sense of both progress and frustration regarding Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) regulations. On the positive side, there is a genuine governmental commitment to ensure that EPCs are more reflective of reality and to enhance their perceived value. Notable advancements in associated EPC software developments are underway, and there is a clear desire to transition EPCs from a singular rating system—akin to that of conventional household appliances—to a more comprehensive multi-rating format, similar to the nutritional information found on food packaging. This could entail indicators such as energy consumption, cost, and fabric performance, rather than a simplistic rating. However, clarity regarding timelines remains elusive. At the end of the conference, Matthew found himself no more informed about when clients could expect definitive guidance regarding their obligations. Even when projected dates were provided, they were frequently accompanied by caveats, such as, "Although we acknowledge that previous timelines have not been met, you may place your trust in us this time, albeit without absolute certainty on the specific timing." This assessment may seem overly critical. However, it is essential to recognise that we cannot afford to remain passive, discussing future dates while urgent issues persist around us. Thanks to Stuart Fairlie, along with all his colleagues and sponsors, for organizing an engaging and well-structured event. #epc #sustainable #sustainabledesign

Last week, Harry Collis and Gillian Rumsey conducted a site visit at the Hollis Wharf Project to carry out a BREEAM AP assessment. Although the weather was not ideal (typical British conditions), they were able to gather a wealth of exciting procurement-related evidence during the visit. This information is crucial for keeping the project on track to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. The Hollis Wharf development includes 120 student apartments and a custom commercial unit for the charity Mercy in Action, which has been active in Bath for over 20 years. Situated within a World Heritage Site and next to two Grade II listed buildings, the project aims to minimize its environmental impact while respecting the area's heritage. Sustainable features of the development include photovoltaic panels, electric heating, a living wall, green roofs, and bird and bat boxes.

Thanks to the invite from Colin Skellett, YTL Construction to attend a hugely important day for the Brabazon New Town Development. Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim joined Colin in delivering a statement formally launching the new development. It will include 6500 new homes and the 19,000 seat Bristol Arena which we can't wait to deliver in the most sustainable way possible. #sustainableconstruction #YTL #Bristol
