Development, Investments & Acquisitions | Renewable Energy & Low Carbon Infrastructure | Strategic Partnerships
This summer, the U.K. and EU experienced high temperatures, underscoring the urgent need to tackle global warming. As greenhouse gas emissions drive up global temperatures, we are seeing more frequent and intense heatwaves, with profound impacts on our environment, economy, and public health. 🌡️ Higher Temperatures and Rising Mortality Rates Higher temperatures are linked to increased mortality rates due to heatwaves. The IPCC notes that without adaptive measures, a global warming increase of 1.5°C to 2°C could significantly raise heat-related deaths, particularly in urban areas where the "urban heat island" effect intensifies heat exposure. ⚡ We Can Mitigate Climate Change Through Decentralised Generation and Energy Efficiency! We must accelerate the transition to renewable energy generation and improve energy efficiency. A key part of this transition is decentralised energy generation—producing energy closer to where it’s consumed. This approach not only reduces generation and transmission losses but also increases energy resilience and reliability. 💡 Investing in a Sustainable Energy Future By investing in decentralised generation and energy efficiency projects, we can significantly reduce our carbon footprint and foster a sustainable energy future. These investments directly lower greenhouse gas emissions, helping us move closer to achieving global warming targets set by the international community. At Sustainable Development Capital LLP, we're leading the change by investing in impactful energy efficiency and decentralised generation projects! Together, we can create a more sustainable and resilient energy system, combat global warming, and protect our future. 🌱 #GlobalWarming #RenewableEnergy #DecentralisedGeneration #EnergyEfficiency #Sustainability #ClimateAction #SDCL #UK

"The UK must transform from an inefficient, expensive and insecure energy economy reliant on imports, to an economy that cuts cost and carbon faster than our neighbours by doing more and wasting less." Great thought leadership from our CEO Jonathan Maxwell, who discusses Labours ambitious goals for the UK, and how they could actually be achieved through efficiency. #Labour #energyefficiency #UKGOV

By the time that energy is converted into electricity to power the UK’s public buildings, hospitals, schools and homes, almost 60% of it has already been lost or wasted during conversion, transmission and distribution. The UK is consistently on the losing end of an ongoing carbon battle, but energy efficiency remains the fastest, cheapest and most reliable solution to achieving greenhouse gas emission reductions. Take the NHS, which operates over 400 major buildings across the UK. If all of these buildings were to have LED lighting installed – a relatively inexpensive project in the grand scheme of things – the NHS would save at least £1bn by the end of this decade as well as meaningfully reduce its carbon emissions. The UK needs to do more with less, which means focusing on delivering decentralised, local energy solutions at scale that are cheaper, cleaner and more reliable than the country’s ageing and expensive grid. It was a pleasure to speak with @Ali Miraj on LBC Radio yesterday about the world’s pressing energy issues and how I sought to capture this in my book, The Edge.
