Our thanks to Innovation Forum for arranging the excellent Sustainable Commodities and Land Use Forum this week connecting actors in the agricultural supply chain, finance and environment sectors. Panel sessions like the one we participated in about emerging deforestation hotspots such as the Brazilian Cerrado, where we operate the Responsible Commodities Facility, are vital for progressing actions and we look forward to continuing the conversations we started there. #greenfinance #impactinvesting #sustainableagriculture #sustainablesupplychains #deforestationfree

Looking forward to participating in the Innovation Forum Sustainable Commodities and Land Use Forum this week to help showcase real world solutions which are transforming commodity supply chains. SIM’s Pedro Moura Costa will join the panel ‘Forest frontiers: Where are the emerging deforestation hot spots and what are we going to do about them?’ to talk about our ongoing and successful approach to protecting native vegetation in the Brazilian Cerrado through the Responsible Commodities Facility, which delivered over 180,000 tonnes of vDCF soy into the supply chain this year. https://lnkd.in/eKQ78AFH #scope3 #sustainableagriculture #naturebasedsolutions

Excellent video produced by GIZ Brasil explaining how the Responsible Commodities Facility (RCF) supports rural producers in the Cerrado. 🌾🌳👇 The video outlines how farmers can access credit through a simple three-step process, offering innovative financing solutions for responsible soy production without deforestation or conversion of new plantation areas. With backing from key investors, the Cerrado Programme has already added over 220,000 tons of sustainable soy to the supply chain in just two years, now moving into its third year alongside our operational partners Opea and Traive, as we continue to explore blended finance models to scale the fund to USD 200 million by 2025.

With investment from Santander Brasil, Rabobank, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose & Partners and AGRI3 Fund, we are pleased to announce that the Responsible Commodities Facility has contributed to over 180,000 tonnes of vDCF soy in its second year. The environmental impact of the RCF Cerrado Programme has been calculated, independently verified, and published in the 2023-2024 Annual Report. The 2023/24 programme delivered 180,221 tonnes of verified deforestation and conversion free soy into the supply chain from the 122 participating farms located in the Cerrado region of Brazil. The programme resulted in 43,324 ha of native vegetation being conserved, of which 11,346 ha is in excess of the legal reserve requirement. An amazing achievement in a difficult year! It was a brilliant opportunity to showcase the Responsible Commodities Facility (RCF) at WWF Verdens naturfond and NorNAB - Norwegian National Advisory Board for Impact Investing’s event this week, among other inspiring examples of how blended finance can create win-win solutions for nature, climate, and investors alike. #ClimateFinance #GreenFinance #BlendedFinance
Governments worldwide have committed to cutting emissions and protecting nature, but public funding alone won’t be enough to meet these targets. To close the gap, private capital must crowd in at a much larger scale. Two days ago, WWF Verdens naturfond hosted an event at The Conduit, in partnership with us at NorNAB, bringing together investors, financial institutions, and decision-makers to discuss how blended finance – the strategic combination of public and private capital – can unlock the funds needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We saw inspiring examples of how blended finance can create win-win solutions for nature, climate, and investors alike. When done right, it offers a powerful tool to accelerate the flow of capital towards projects that will shape a sustainable future. We hope this event will contribute to new collaborations and green investment partnerships. Your contributions could be the catalyst we all need. As recent studies reveal, high-carbon zones in the Amazon are at critical risk. It’s a pivotal moment for sustainable forest management and climate action. Solutions with immediate effects are key. At SIM, we’re committed to advancing Sustainable Forest and Conservation Finance. Through the SIMFlor programme, we aim to provide financial incentives for landowners to comply with the Brazilian Forest Code in the Amazon, supporting sustainable forestry, reducing emissions, and protecting biodiversity. #GreenFinance #CarbonMarkets #Conservation #Amazon
Honoured to be part of the dialogue around protecting the Amazon’s high-carbon areas, following the recent Monitoring of the Andean Amazon Project (MAAP) study. These critical zones need urgent attention through a combination of public policy, carbon markets, and innovative approaches like High-Integrity Forests (HIFOR). By aligning efforts from governments, the private sector, and the global community, we can safeguard these vital areas and their role in mitigating climate change. The time to act is now. Thank you to OjoPúblico for covering this important topic. #ClimateAction #CarbonMarkets #Amazon
