Last Friday, the EV team attended the FullyCharged.SHOW & Everything Electric South Festival, where we explored the future of sustainability in business and even got behind the wheel to drive a Tesla! 🚗⚡ One highlight of the event was the insightful panel on "Opportunities for Decarbonising Business," featuring industry experts, Rachel Jones, Oliver Holt, Joe Wadsworth, Laura Atkinson hosted by the fantastic Imogen Bhogal.   The discussion dived into how businesses can decarbonise by:   🔗 Embracing holistic solutions 📊 Using data to identify the most cost-effective paths to sustainability 💡 Overcoming barriers like financial constraints and lack of education   Key takeaway? Today the International Energy Agency (IEA) released their annual report on renewables. Their projections for 2024-2030 are staggering: - Global renewable capacity is expected to grow by 2.7 times by 2030 📈 - The pace of renewables growth in transport, industry and buildings doubles to 2030 compared with the rate from 2017 to 2023 🚘 🏢 - In Europe, distributed solar PV becomes the largest renewable capacity source by 2030, surpassing hydropower and onshore wind ☀ For the real estate sector, the rapid expansion of renewables brings new requirements and new opportunities. As always ‘on point’ (no pun!) from my colleague Marvin Narcisse. #workplacecharging is not a nice to have, it is essential infrastructure, particularly for offices, industrials and logistics real estate. Getting it ‘right’ should not cost more than getting it ‘wrong’ - it isn’t, sadly, as simple as “can someone please sort some EV charging for us - how difficult can it be?” What you install, and how it is able to be operated is very very important. Also, how will these actually be managed? There have been some uncomfortable conversations in recent months as some clients have found themselves with ‘locked’ posts that can only operate with a single (bust or no longer operating in the commercial sector) operators. The only option to have EV charging at workplaces has meant replacing expensive kit to avoid the very expensive situation where they are paying for the power going in….but unable to actually charge people to use them. No one likes having to break that sort of bad news. - Think ahead - what sort of asset is it? - what back office is best for your given requirements? - multilet offices? Flexible commercial operating is essential. - who manages the cost (at the post) to your occupiers? - have you got enough incoming power? - should you think about on-site renewables at the same time? Happily, Syzygy is here to help you navigate this with streamlined procurement and project delivery (these are often smallish capex projects - so working with a totally independent (we do not have any ‘deals’ with OEMs or other providers affecting the advice we give you) and getting this done quickly but delivered in the right way is really important).
