A huge congratulations to TAPC programme director Jonpaul Nevin, PhD who successfully gained his PhD in Sport and Exercise Science from Cardiff Metropolitan University yesterday. Well done Doctor Nevin.
Tactical Athlete Performance Centre (TAPC) Programme Director / Senior Lecturer in Strength and Conditioning
If you had told me in 1997 when I joined the British Army as a 16 year old apprentice in the Corps of Royal Engineers that 27 years later I would earn a PhD in Sport and Exercise Science I would have laughed. However, yesterday after a long old slog I finally gained my PhD from Cardiff Metropolitan University. It has been long a journey, which started in the summer of 2009 whilst deployed on Operation Herrick 10 in Afghanistan. As a result of that experience and my subsequent time at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court serving as a Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor in the Royal Army Physical Training Corps the body of work which led to my PhD has focused upon enhancing the exercise rehabilitation and recovery of wounded, injured and sick service personal through the use of handcycling. Along the way I have been guided and mentored by many people but I have to give a special thanks to Paul M. Smith, Dr Russ Coppack PhD MBE, Martin Colclough OBE, Colin Suffield MSc, ASCC, John Spence, Joe Foreshew, and Fiona M. for all your sage wisdom at different points along the way. Finally, this PhD is dedicated to all UK personnel who were killed in action or injured as a result of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. In particular the 81 personnel of Task Force Helmand and 19 Light Brigade who lost their lives during that summer of 2009, they will never be forgotten. #Knowledge #Wisdom #Application #Remembrance
