🥳 tado° smart thermostats turn 12 today! 🎉 Back in 2012, a small team worked on launching a completely new category set to revolutionise home climate management. Our founders Christian Deilmann and Johannes Schwarz wanted to put consumers in control of their heating energy consumption and their energy bills. And so the very first tado° Smart Thermostat was shipped exactly 12 years ago today… the rest is history! Meanwhile, a lot has happened! Three years ago we took the first steps beyond managing domestic heating towards an integrated management of all household energy assets, and now have added heat pump control, electric car charging, optimization of the use of self-generated electricity from solar panels, and electricity tariffs to our portfolio. With the WIRED Energy Tech Summit, a carbon-free energy future just got a little bit closer! Our COO Dr. Frank Siebdrat joined 500 other innovators, entrepreneurs and thought leaders in Berlin to explore innovations in EVs, AI, and smart homes, and discussed on stage with Kéré Architecture GmbH, Guliana Auinger, Octopus Energy and Greg Williams what it takes to decarbonize buildings and accelerate the green energy transition. Frank's key take-away: “In the end, we need consumers to reduce the massive carbon footprint of homes and buildings, and it’s our job to get them on board with our mission to create a green energy future. Endlich kommt der breite Smart Meter Roll-out im Januar - oder doch nicht? Das Bundeskabinett diskutiert morgen einen Referentenentwurf, der empfindliche Bremsen einbauen und den bereits vor gut einem Jahr beschlossenen Roll-out Plan umschmeißen will - zum Nachteil der Verbraucher UND der Energiewende.   So wird gebremst: Höhere Untergrenzen beim Energieverbrauch, höhere Einbaugebühren, längere Einbaufristen und die Möglichkeit, den Wunscheinbau komplett abzulehnen - das sehen die Änderungen vor. tado° positioniert sich… …klar gegen diesen geplanten Rückschritt bei der Digitalisierung der Netzinfrastruktur. Smart Meter sind die Voraussetzung für die Nutzung von dynamischen Stromtarifen und die gezielte Lastverschiebung in Privathaushalten: Nämlich die Wärmepumpe dann betreiben, das E-Auto dann laden, wenn viel und damit günstiger Strom im Netz ist. Der Gesetzesentwurf nimmt vielen Haushalten die Möglichkeit, von den Vorteilen der Energiewende zu profitieren - und ihren Beitrag zur Stabilisierung der Netze zu leisten! Und wirft uns noch weiter hinter fast alle europäischen Nachbarländer zurück. Österreich macht es vor: Unser Tochterunternehmen aWATTar hat in Österreich das positive Momentum miterlebt, das eine Einbaupflicht auf Kundenwunsch entwickeln kann: Nur 5 Jahre nach Einführung sind 90% der Haushalte mit einem Smart Meter ausgestattet und die Kunden nutzen die Lastverschiebung aktiv und mit großem Erfolg! Der Smart Meter Effekt kann Haushalte in Deutschland gleich doppelt entlasten: als Verbraucher und als Steuerzahler! Wenn alle Haushalte Smart Meter haben, wird der Strom vorwiegend dann verbraucht, wenn viel davon zu günstigen Preisen verfügbar ist - Haushalte zahlen weniger für den Strom und der Staat braucht weniger Steuergelder für Ausgleichszahlungen für negative Strompreise!  Deshalb fordern wir: Der Smart Meter Einbau auf Wunsch muss mit den aktuellen Regeln erhalten bleiben. Hürden für interessierte Verbraucher dürfen nicht wieder erhöht werden. Screwfix Live 2024 was a record-breaking success and our tado° team were delighted to be there. More than 26,000 customers, professionals and exhibitors visited Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre in Hampshire, UK, across three days last weekend and we saw a big increase in not only sales but also awareness of the smart heating solutions tado° provides. But it wasn’t just about the numbers. Events like Screwfix Live are crucial for understanding even more what our customers are looking for in terms of home energy management solutions. And our ice cream and toys were a great hit with visitors both young and old at the family-friendly event. tado° returns for a second year at one of the biggest events in the UK this morning… Screwfix Live. Almost 20,000 people visited the three-day event at the Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre in 2023 and we gained great insights by speaking directly to our partners and customers about what they think of our tado° smart heating and home energy management solutions. There really is no substitute to face-to-face interactions.
