Taylor & Francis is excited to announce its first Subscribe to Open (S2O) pilot. S2O enables a journal’s subscribers to support its conversion to OA, making new articles available to readers everywhere. S2O introduces an additional equitable route for making trusted knowledge available to all. Under S2O’s collective funding model OA publishing costs are covered by subscribers, which means there are no OA charges for the articles’ authors. This makes it a promising solution for journals in fields where researchers are less likely to have access to OA funding, such as Humanities and Social Sciences, and for authors based in low-income regions. Congratulations to our Director of Publishing Ethics and Integrity Sabina Alam for her opinion paper being accepted for publication at Insights: the UKSG journal. Her article, entitled “Trends in research integrity concerns and the evolving role of the publisher,” explains: “As someone who has been working on research integrity and ethics issues within publishing for over 15 years, it has been interesting and at times alarming, to see how the trends in misconduct have been evolving.” Read advice from Sabina Alam on how publishers, institutions, funders, researchers, and others can take practical and collaborative steps to both recognize and address research integrity misconduct. http://spr.ly/6040oQjMY #ResearchEthics

Today we’re announcing that we have added a new Temporary Alert to journal articles that are under investigation by Taylor & Francis’ Publishing Ethics & Research Integrity Team. This will enable site users to exercise appropriate caution when considering the research presented. Sabina Alam, Director of Publishing Ethics & Integrity at Taylor & Francis, says: “This new ‘under investigation’ notification will keep readers informed earlier in the process and enable us to remove the message once the investigation has been completed, whatever conclusion it comes to.” The Taylor & Francis Publishing Ethics & Research Integrity team investigates hundreds of research articles each year for a range of suspected issues, including data falsification, plagiarism, fake authorship, and paper mills. Each investigation is carried out thoroughly, impartially, and with care, following Committee on Publishing Ethics (COPE) guidelines and our investigation principles. Open data has the power to accelerate scientific progress and promote trust in research. How can we unlock these benefits, and what barriers do we need to overcome? The State of Open Data report, 'From theory to practice,' captures real-world insights on the challenges and opportunities of sharing research data openly. A collaborative effort, published by Digital Science, Figshare, and Springer Nature Group, with over 20 individual contributors, including our own Dr. Rebecca Taylor-Grant, the report provides valuable case studies on how libraries, publishers, funders, and industry leaders are embracing open data practices: http://spr.ly/6042oeVYw http://spr.ly/6043oeVYb #OpenData #DataSharing Sonia Maria Barbosa Amy Campbell Richard Campbell Ishwar Chandramouliswaran John Chodacki Ellie Clement Lisa Ann Curtin Laura Day Aaron Doran Mark Hahnel Kristi Holmes, PhD Beverley Jones Hylke Koers Simon Linacre Catriona MacCallum Pippa McIlwaine Joana Osório Iratxe Puebla Tony Ross-Hellauer Susanna-Assunta Sansone Shelley Stall, CDMP, PMP Ana Van Gulick Julie Wood

Earlier this year we announced that F1000 and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation were launching VeriXiv, a new verified preprint platform. Today we are excited to say that the first preprint has been published on the platform: “Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine market survey at agro-veterinary stores in rural and peri-urban areas of Nigeria.” This research from Dr. Andy Peters, Adebayo Sopeju, Grace Onoja, and Victor Taiwo Abiodun evaluates how high-quality foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccines used on livestock could best be made available in Nigeria. This work can have a huge impact on the livelihoods of farmers in LMICs (Low- or Middle-Income Country), as globally, the annual economic impact of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is estimated at USD 11 billion in endemic settings, with the impact most profound among smallholder farmers. F1000 provides innovative open access publishing platforms offering rapid publication and open peer review, whilst supporting data deposition and sharing for the research community.
