Senior Strategic Advisor, Marketing Technologist & Author of "If they only knew: A cop's journey with addiction and mental health" coming in 2025!
IMPORTANT NEWS regarding the proposed Canadian Public Safety Broadband Network (PSBN): Government of Canada public consultation on a governance framework for a nationwide PSBN is now OPEN FOR COMMENTS! As my article ("Bridging the Gap: The Road Forward for Public Safety Interoperability in Canada" available here https://lnkd.in/gPMiXxbw) in the current edition of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police / Association canadienne des chefs de police magazine states: "The widely anticipated release of a consultation process on potential governance models for a national public safety broadband network by the Government of Canada is expected to result in a flurry of activity across Canada. This includes numerous members of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) Information and Communications Technology and Emergency Management committees, as well as from our partners at the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs and Paramedic Chiefs of Canada. These subject matter experts have already begun to develop a formal response on behalf of our Association." Since that article was drafted, numerous additional partners have joined the CACP PSBN Working Group. For more information about the WG, contact its Chair, Martin McCulloch from Waterloo Regional Police Service, or coordinator Kathy Wunder. From the government's website: A Public Safety Broadband Network (PSBN) is an interoperable, mission-critical, wireless communications capability which supports the people, organizations, and devices that work together to keep communities safe. A nationwide PSBN in Canada would provide a much needed secure and resilient communications platform for emergency responders but will also enable new and innovative technologies and applications that enhance emergency response for Canadians. The Temporary National Coordination Office (TNCO) developed national options and recommendations on a future PSBN for Canada, supported by research, analysis, and engagement with PSBN stakeholders. The TNCO was comprised of federal government departments, Provincial/Territorial jurisdictions, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Tri-Services (police, firefighters, and paramedics) associations, and other potential PSBN user groups. Consistent with recommendations put forth by the TNCO, the Government of Canada is considering the form that a new national PSBN Authority would take if it were established. The Government of Canada is seeking views from a full range of stakeholders, including provinces and territories, tri-services, and industry partners, to inform the development of the required governance framework for a nationwide PSBN, which would involve standing up a new authority to oversee and lead the development of the network.
