Robert Klassen, one of our founders is presenting his inaugural lecture at Oxford this evening - you can register to attend remotely at the link below if you'd like to hear about Rob's research into #teachershortages and the innovative responses we are developing. Addressing global teacher shortages through research and innovation Professor Robert Klassen, Professor of Education, University of Oxford Abstract Teachers are the backbone of education, with around 90 million educators shaping the futures of nearly 2 billion students worldwide. However, a serious and growing crisis has emerged as countries face persistent shortages of both current and aspiring teachers. Conventional interventions, primarily financial incentives, have proven to be ineffective, offering only short-term relief without addressing the underlying motivations that attract and alienate potential teachers. This presentation explores how we can integrate research and theory from education and psychology to develop new and effective approaches to address local and global teacher shortages. Robert will discuss ongoing research that explores the motivations underlying the attraction and retention of teachers, and then demonstrate how we are leveraging these insights to develop new technologies aimed at tackling this persistent global challenge. About the speaker Robert Klassen is Statutory Professor of Education at the University of Oxford and Professorial Fellow at Harris Manchester College. From 2012 to 2023, he was Professor and Chair at the University of York in the UK, where he founded and led the Psychology in Education Research Centre. His academic career began at the University of Alberta, where he worked in the Department of Educational Psychology between 2004 and 2012. Prior to his academic tenure, Robert served as an educational psychologist and high school teacher in Vancouver, his hometown. His research focuses on motivation, educational technologies, and teacher workforce issues. https://lnkd.in/eAJccu-P

Great to have Jade Rushby involved in this exciting research project with UNSW - continuing her work to improve teacher diversity, recruitment and retention through evidence based initiatives.
The Australian Institute for Teaching & School Leadership (AITSL) "Selection of entrants into initial teacher education" guidelines state: In order for providers to select the candidates most likely to succeed in an initial teacher education program, the following principles guide the development and implementation of selection processes: 👉 Selection processes assess both the academic and non-academic capabilities of candidates. 👉 Providers use evidence-based selection methods relevant to their context to gather information and assess the academic and non-academic capabilities of candidates. 👉 Providers are transparent in the selection methods and minimum entry requirements chosen, including the evidence base supporting the choice. Really pleased to share Jade Rushby, Dr Hoa Nguyen and Helena Granziera will be joining the research team: Enhancing Teacher Readiness (EnTeR): Assessing and Developing Professional Attributes for Teaching in NSW schools. EnTeR is led by Tracy Durksen UNSW in collaboration with the Teacher Success Platform (TSP)and Robert Klassen from the Department of Education, University of Oxford. Universities across NSW will be invited to participate. Some highlights of EnTeR: ⭐ Solid research foundation ⭐ Context-rich situational judgement test as a baseline assessment within the first month of programs ⭐ Two professional learning modules including First Nations, Rural/regional and early years scenarios ⭐ Real-time data insights for participating universities ⭐ Peer to peer forums to build a strong, collegial community of future teachers You can read more here: https://lnkd.in/eXXZFb-j Please contact Tracy Durksen if you are a NSW ITE provider and would like to find out more! #ite #teacherselection #teacherdevelopment #firstnations #ruralteaching #regionalteaching #teacherprofessionalism #aitsl #enter #tsp #continuousassessment #futureteachers #aspiringteachers #nswschools #teachereducation #durableskills #softskills

We’ve just published a new blog post about Situational Judgement Tests and their potential to help incorporate neurodiverse teaching candidates’ unique ways of thinking. There is plenty of evidence that neurodiverse teachers make great educators and help foster an inclusive classroom, but how could we strengthen the traditional hiring process to support these candidates? T-Insight's teacher training and development courses utilise a ‘Scenario-Based Learning’ (SBL) methodology to help build teacher competence and confidence. Teachers can learn by doing, and learn from those more experienced than they are, allowing them to develop a more nuanced understanding of teaching. Our award-winning courses provide a supportive and collaborative environment that helps develop classroom readiness and self efficacy, engaging teachers in compelling, interactive problem-solving and decision-making that is relevant to the level or subject they are teaching. Visit our website to explore T-Insight’s range of pre-service and in-service courses, and our variety of licensing options. #SBL #teachertraining #teacherdevelopment #education #elearning

We are thrilled to announce a partnership with UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture's School of Education for our brand new EnTeR (Enhancing Teacher Readiness) Project. Led by Tracy Durksen in collaboration the Teacher Success Platform (TSP) and Robert Klassen from the University of Oxford, EnTeR employs a continuous view of assessing and confirming the key professional attributes for employment into New South Wales schools. New teacher education students will complete the baseline assessment, T-Screen, a situational judgement test, within the first month of their program, followed by T-Insight professional learning modules throughout their two years of study. Teacher Education students will be invited to participate in peer to peer forums to build a strong community of reflective and supportive practitioners. New scenario content developed during this project will focus on collaborating with local partners in NSW to reflect the schooling experiences of Aboriginal students and their communities, the interests of regional, rural, and remote schools, and teaching in early childhood education contexts. Please contact Tracy Durksen for further information or if you would like to be involved in 2025 - 2026. #aitsl #teacherselection #teacherdevelopment #teachereducation #professionalism #nsw #ite #unsw #tsp #retention #teachersuitability #durableskills #assessment #teacherattributes #teachersuccess #teacherpotential #firstnations #earlyyears #ruralteaching #remoteteaching
