A fantastic event as part of the Festival of Tech, making sure no one is left behind 🌟

Delighted to be working with Tech Cornwall as part of The Festival of Tech to deliver this free seminar for the older crew who want to stay involved in what is going on in their communities. As more and more events and activities move onto social media this leaves some people behind and becoming isolated. This seminar goes through some simple points to keep everyone connected. I will also be going through an overview of how ChatGPT can help with formulating ideas to explore and words when we are lacking inspiration. My thanks to Garry Hunt and Tech Cornwall.

At the end of February, I’ll be speaking at The Big Cornish Tech Showcase on: “Practical futures: using trends to make an impact now.” I won’t be presenting predictions for 2025, there’s already plenty of great analysis out there. In fact, I can’t remember a time when the futures industry has been so generous with its thinking. Instead, I'm going to look at it from the audience’s perspective. That is, the perspective of senior leaders who are taking decisions with big implications for the future. With so many trends and stories available, how should they decide what to pay attention to? And how should they make the commercial case for action? To keep things practical, I’ll share a few simple patterns I’ve noticed repeatedly in my work. And to keep it real, each pattern will be illustrated with a decision I’ve personally been involved in, no hypothetical case studies here. If that sounds interesting, speak to Niki Davies and the team at Tech Cornwall, and come along to Newquay on 27th February. Would love to see you there!

After 7 years we are about to retire our Raspberry Pi3 PiTops and the v1 Microbits. They have seen a lot of use, almost weekly, but they're beginning to show their age. Today, at Gwinear Primary school, the workshop for the Year 6 may have been their last outing. They have been so robust and dependable for so long. The lovely, green PiTops that always catch the students eyes in school are being replaced with the new Raspberry Pi Foundation Pi500 and their rather smart new Monitor. I'm looking forward to receiving these next week. Then today the Micro:bit Educational Foundation sent us a whole class set of the v2 Microbits. These have added speakers and microphones. And best of all with theei new CreateAI programming we can run machine learning on them. So looking forward to trying that in a class setting. Can I mix machine learning with our rovers and the Microbits? Now there's a challenge I'm up for. The Tech Cornwall Youth Programme is coming right up to date with the latest in cutting edge tech to learn on. Even better reasons for schools to get in touch.
