Had a great morning at the #bristoltechfest with our sustainability themed breakfast and talk ‘ How green is your Silicon Gorge?’. Fantastic support from Lucy P. and the #techspark team for helping set this up and facilitate it. Some really good conversations and questions through both the breakfast and the workshop. I think we all came away with new perspectives and ideas.

💫 BREAKING NEWS 💫 Today at the Regional Innovation for the Modern Economy event in Bristol, we announced our plans for a new £300m spin-out-focused investment vehicle in partnership with QantX Our six university partners have a combined research portfolio of over £600m and have produced over 230 spin-out companies. To support this rich pipeline of talent and innovation, we’re aiming to increase the amount of capital, expertise, and support available to spin-outs and start-up companies in our regions that are working in areas of true global impact – such as sustainability, clean energy, and transformative healthcare. The event was attended by Science Minister Lord Patrick Vallance, who says: “The UK is home to brilliant innovators, and this investment vehicle that brings together six Universities with a private sector investment firm, QantX, will help turn great ideas into thriving companies that create high-skilled jobs and exciting new products.” 👉 Get the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eaFDaDar Exeter Innovation University of Exeter Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd University of Southampton University of Bath University of Surrey University of Bristol techSPARK uk SETsquared Bristol SETsquared Bath Innovation Centre SETsquared Surrey Exeter Innovation Accelerator British Business Bank Bristol Innovations BI Foresight Marty Reid Harry Alexander Richard Haycock Michelle Law Andrew Wray Neil Hayes Diana Galpin David Woolley Caroline Fleming Aimee Skinner Photos by Julian Preece #investment #innovation #spinouts

Breaking news 🗞 Today we're excited to announce our plans for a new £300m spin-out-focused investment vehicle in partnership with SETsquared Partnership. The initiative was announced by our Chair Sir Richard Olver at Bristol City Hall at the Regional Investment and Health & Life Sciences Summit - part of the Bristol Tech Festival - with Science Minister Patrick Vallance, Rt Hon Darren Jones MP, Louis Taylor and Penny Dash in attendance. The SETsquared Partnership’s six university partners have a combined research portfolio of over £600m and have produced over 230 spin-out companies. Despite this success, the potential impact of R&D to power regional growth and productivity is being held back due to significant imbalances in equity funding across the UK. Startups in the region raise on average five times less at early stages* than in the Golden Triangle. In support of the initiative, Science Minister Lord Patrick Vallance said: “The UK is home to brilliant innovators, and this investment vehicle that brings together six Universities with a private sector investment firm, QantX, will help turn great ideas into thriving companies that create high-skilled jobs and exciting new products.” ➡ Get the full story here: https://lnkd.in/e36JRMN9 Pictured L-R: Chris Evans, Richard Haycock, Michele Barbour, Michelle Law, Sir Richard Olver, Diana Galpin Marty Reid Thank you Julian Preece for the fantastic photos 🙌 Harry Alexander Ben Woods Phil Brown Andrew Wray Rosalind Derby Neil Hayes Jim Williams David Woolley Caroline Fleming Aimee Skinner Barclays Eagle Labs British Business Bank Bristol Innovations Evelyn Partners techSPARK uk Nick Sturge MBE Exeter Innovation University of Exeter Cardiff University Innovation + Impact Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd University of Bristol University of Bath University of Southampton University of Surrey techSPARK uk SETsquared Bristol SETsquared Bath Innovation Centre SETsquared Surrey #investment #innovation #regionaleconomy #impactinvesting #breakingnews
