About us
Tempus Novo is delivering what was previously thought undeliverable. Founded and run by two former senior prison officers, Steve Freer and Val Wawrosz and with the support of some amazing trustees, ambassadors and stakeholders, we are going from strength to strength in supporting ex-offenders into sustainable employment. We have created something of a movement as we see more and more people join us to break down the societal stigma that has prevented people with convictions re-entering the workplace. Helping people get back on their feet can't change the past, but it can help to change the future, and with reoffending costing society around £18Billion per annum, it really is time to act. With around 60 businesses now working with us, we are able to create real job opportunities for those people previously without a hope, and have proved that when a business is prepared to offer that desperate person an opportunity it pays dividends. Indeed several of our business partners now boast an upturn in productivity as a direct result of our partnership. This is the level of appreciation ex offenders show after being given a lifeline in the form of employment. Time and time again we receive feedback from employers that our Tempus Novo graduates are amongst the most loyal and hard working employees in the company. In fact our data for 2022 reveals that 1 in 5 go onto gain a promotion. #NoRiskNoProgress

Friday was a day to remember for Tempus Novo. We had the incredible opportunity to catch up and present our work directly to Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, the Member of Parliament for Leeds West and Pudsey and now the Chancellor, who as a local Leeds MP has been with us on our journey. It was a pivotal moment for Tempus Novo as we showcased exactly what we have delivered in our mission to help ex-offenders reintegrate into society through sustainable employment. In the room with us were some incredibly important people in TN's journey and success, including prison Governors, graduates and employers. We believe in full transparency, and the visit was all about sharing the real, measurable results of our efforts: - 1100+ job placements for ex-offenders - A less than 5% re-offending rates among those we’ve helped - Strong, lasting partnerships with employers who are committed to offering second chances Our message was clear: jobs bring stability. By offering ex-offenders a path to meaningful work, we’re not just helping individual people - we’re making our communities safer and stronger. And this process must start before prisoners leave the system. A recent visit to one of our valued partners, A.P. Moller - Maersk, was a huge highlight for us. We visited Maersk’s Tamworth warehouse to speak to the wider team about the progress we have made since the start of our partnership, and the exciting plans we have for the future. A particularly proud moment was meeting with two of our outstanding graduates, Ommer and Sam, who have been thriving at Maersk for the past seven months.
