Iarnród Éireann/Irish Rail Safety Executive | Founder Near Miss Ltd.

Completion of Geo-Fencing Trial: A Message of Thanks I am pleased to announce the successful conclusion of another Geo-Fencing trial this week in conjunction with AMC Training & Consultancy Ltd and Tended. This was an exciting project to lead with the help and professional input from Jonathan Lendrum. The benefits of this technology as a support tool for track worker safety are highly promising, and we are excited about its future potential. Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail initially aimed to use various Geofencing systems to monitor the accurate placement and removal of STOP Boards across various possessions on Irish Rail’s DART lines. The primary objective was to assess the technology’s effectiveness in supporting staff with precise placement of Possession STOP Boards and ensuring line clearance before the hand back of possessions. These devices significantly improved the process for PICOPS, Engineering Supervisors, Hand Signalmen and Trackworkers in enhancing both the accuracy and efficiency of board placement and the implementation of safe zones. This allowed PICOPs to verify that protection boards were correctly positioned in line with possession maps, enhancing safety for all staff. The live view on the dashboard was exceptionally well-received by staff, providing a visual of the entire possession throughout Engineering Works. #safety #geofence #speration #trackworkersafety #safezones

More exciting updates about Tended’s work in the Netherlands! 🇳🇱 Last week, we were invited by Stichting railAlert to discuss what the UK rail sector is learning and doing about working with plant and machines with open lines. Based in Amersfoort at Railcenter, RailAlert is home to the Dutch organisation ProRail’s Innovation Centre and a training academy for the industry. Here Tended’s Dominic O'Malley and Andy Crago CENg, CMIOSH, FPWI, alongside our partners in the Netherlands Dual Inventive, discussed how geofencing technology is set to revolutionise personal trackside safety and worksite management, creating capacity to keep trains moving and increasing access for contractors to carry out essential work on the railway. RailAlert plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety within the Dutch railway sector, ensuring that safety standards are met, and continuously working to improve the safety and well-being of railway workers and the general public. We will be taking forward several exciting initiatives to meet the goals of RailAlert and all stakeholders in the Netherlands. A huge thanks to Thijs van Kessel and Jan Kees Hofker for welcoming us to RailAlert’s headquarters in Amersfoort and Marleen van de Kerkhof for creating the opportunity to discuss these important challenges. Have you ever wondered why workers still take risks despite clear guidelines and best practices? It’s a question that many safety professionals grapple with, and the answer might not be as straightforward as it seems. In this webinar hosted by the IOSH Railway Group, Tended’s Head of Behavioural Science Jules Reed uncovers the complexities behind unsafe behaviour in the workplace. Exploring why workers inevitably behave unsafely, Jules delves into the psychology and sociology of decision-making at work, revealing how human behaviour often defies logic when it comes to safety. Drawing on her expertise in behavioural science, Jules discusses: 💡 Why unsafe behaviours are sometimes unavoidable 💡 The role that workplace dynamics and culture play in influencing decisions 💡 The subconscious factors and mental shortcuts that lead to risk-taking 💡 How understanding these behaviours can help us create more effective safety interventions and foster a stronger safety culture Whether you're a safety leader, HR professional, or team manager, this webinar provides a fresh perspective on how we can rethink safety strategies to align with human behaviour. We were delighted to be asked to visit Amey Infrastructure Wales yesterday, talking with Amey and their suppliers about where and how geofencing has helped reduce incidents. Tended’s Damian Ciesielski and Ashley Bayley presented the many benefits of our system, including some real-world incidents that Tended has helped to prevent, protecting the workforce from potential injury and saving our customers the significant amount of money that comes with safety incidents. Great to be a part of this day where there were some really interesting talks breaking down how human factors affect safety in every part of our work and the approaches we can take to help keep teams on our railways safe.

Important safety update from Network Rail 🚨 We are pleased to share that Network Rail has issued its latest safety bulletin, announcing the updated application of geofencing technology and thus confirming the critical role of geofencing in improving the safety of our railways. In addition to its many existing safety benefits, Tended’s alerting system is also approved for use on or near the line, following a period of thorough independent testing and analysis. Organisations that undertake rail infrastructure works on or near rail lines can use geofencing technology to enhance the safety of their teams and help prevent them from working outside safe limits. Find out how in our latest post👇 https://lnkd.in/e-sN-9jn
