About us
Since 1985 the team at Thames Valley Positive Support has worked hard to make a significant difference to people living with HIV across Berkshire and North Hampshire. Originally an amalgamation of several different HIV support groups in the area, TVPS now stands proudly as the only HIV charity in Berkshire and in January 2020, expanded to include HIV support in North Hampshire. Our work spans prevention, testing and post-diagnosis support. Our goal That all people are aware of their HIV status, have the right level of support if they are positive and are sufficiently informed to protect themselves if they are negative. Our core purpose: To provide emotional and practical support to those living with, or affected by, the virus and to empower them to achieve a full and rewarding life. To increase the level of testing to ensure people know their HIV status and to avoid late diagnosis. To increase awareness and information so new infections can be prevented.

There were celebrations for us today as it was announced the podcast that TVPS produces, The HIV Podcast, has been nominated for a British Podcast Awards in the Wellbeing category. This award nomination is there fourth in under twelve months! We received an ARIAS award nomination earlier this year and two Independent Podcast Award nominations in winter last year. We are thrilled to announce that our Beyou lgbtqia+ service has been awarded a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund! With so many wonderful people having taken the brave step to access support from Beyou, we want to ensure they continue to receive the service they deserve. Funding will enable us to expand and develop our service, to ensure we can meet demand. We are beaming ear to ear!

Yesterday we were lucky enough to have some wonderful volunteers from Steer who absolutely transformed our garden! As you can see, our garden had got a bit....wild! With an increase in demand for HIV support and LGBTQIA+ services, the garden goes to the very bottom of the 'to do' list, so having it given a complete makeover is so incredibly helpful and we are beyond grateful. Thank you to everyone who came and gave their time!

Continuing our month of TVPS' 39th birthday celebrations! So let's head back to the 1980's and see how it all back! 1980s: - The AIDS Support Group is established for people living in the Slough/Windsor area. - Reading Area AIDS Support (RAAS) is formed by a group of people living in the area, providing an AIDSLINE telephone help line, hardship funding and a Buddy support service. - Reading Body Positive is officially launched by RAAS by two volunteers, with four HIV positive clients, later changing its name to Thames Valley Body Positive (TVBP).
