A great resource for writers’ & artists’. 802 pages of content. If you’re an aspiring author who wants to get published or go the self published route - it’s a handy book to keep on your bookshelf. Writing may just be the easy bit, believe it or not. I’m heading straight for the ‘Writing and publishing short stories’ section as I’ve started writing my own book - 1 chapter at a time. I’ll be using this book to guide me on my author journey. I recommend it to you if you are an aspiring writer too. #TheAuthorsJourney #BookWritersResource

I Help You Become an Author and Find Your Brand. ||Ghostwriting| Book Proposals|Coaching

You've written a book? Newsflash: no one cares. 🖊 No one cares that last Saturday I stopped at a little papelería and bought a decent marker. (You just care that now you can read my messy signs better, right?) Similarly, your reader doesn't care that you've written a book, only that one HAS BEEN WRITTEN that might help them 1. solve a problem 2. find answers 3. confirm a belief 4. develop a new skill 5. get inspired to start a project 6. self-discover 7. be entertained 8. find comfort 9. catapult their career 10. potty train their cat These activities have nothing to do with YOU and the fact that you've written your magnum opus. ⭐ If your reader doesn't care, then your agent doesn't care either—at least not as much as they care about their 15 % that's getting their family to Aruba next Christmas. ☀ 🎄 I'm not being cynical—just real. We all love books. We all have hearts. But book publishing is a business. The sooner that you, the author, see it that way, the sooner you'll put your READER (customer) FIRST. Then you'll be able to write that killer book proposal (or marketing plan, if you're self-publishing) that gets your book read and makes all your hard work worth it. And that's something that I REALLY DO CARE ABOUT. === -I'm the Ghostwriter's Ghostwriter -I care about high standards and strong community -Check out my FEATURED section to 1) Visit my website 2) See my latest book, featured in the NYT and on “The View” 3) Read my articles

  • A story of the 'Urban Fox' and a delighted author called Steve

View profile for Mandy Ward, graphic

Author Journey & Self-Publishing Guide | Growing your Wordcount | Helping parents age 35+ capture memories by writing your Life Story | 'Life Story Book'- In My Own Words & The Authors Journey

The story of the Urban Fox book and the real 'Urban Fox'. Set in and around Leamington Spa and written by Steve Attridge (author/writer/film/tv/scriptwriter and all round nice bloke) - this wonderful book, (the 1st of 5), is one that we are very proud to say we have worked on. I met Della - the creator of the real 'Urban Fox' whilst out walking Olly dog. Della is a natural 'creator'. She's an artist, seamstress, felter, baker (yummy cakes that I get to 'test' ) and all-round clever, talented lady. We asked Della if she could make us a real 'Urban Fox' as a gift from us to Steve. Of course she could! After many hours of felting, where I got to see the Fox gradually come to life, Della and I finally took a trip over to Leamington Spa, met Steve for a coffee and then after introducing them to each other Della presented Steve with the Fox. What a wonderful Fox for a wonderful book. Like many creatives, Della just wants to make things. She's not the time or the inclination to 'sell' or spend time on LinkyDink or any other platform as there's always another project to focus on. I've tried to convince her that it's not 'sales' - it's helping people. But she's not fussed. I get it. And Steve gets it. So I'm telling you this story to help Della - if you have a character that you'd like brought to life by Della - you can get in touch with her by e mail - della@savingraces.co.uk. .....and I'll add the link to buy Steve's book - The Urban Fox - set in the fabulous, creative place that is Leamington Spa in the comments. What a lovely day - love my job (most of the time 😉 )

    • Della Kyle - model maker and Steve Attridge - author, meeting at a cafe in Leamington Spa where Della presented Steve with the 'Urban Fox' model.
The Urban Fox is the main character in a book by Steve, set in Leamington Spa it follows the story of the Fox and his friends. It's a fun read for all ages and Steve's sense of humour shines through.

  • Writers Beware! Scammers in the book world. Sadly, like every other industry, they're out there. We were contacted a couple of weeks ago by a newbie writer about helping them get their book done. Unfortunately, we cannot work with them because they've already signed up with an organisation that has:- 1. Taken a big chunk of money upfront, (over £1500) with more to pay once the book is done. 2. Got them to sign a contract - signing away their IP in the process. 3. Given them nothing in return for over 12 months. 4. Left the customer with the prospect of having to pay for legal advice to fight and get out of the contract. 5. Left them feeling bullied, angry, stressed and a lot poorer. 6. Worst of all - they are stuck - no book on the horizon. Can you imagine? Now it would be easy to criticise them for having signed the contract without understanding the ramifications. But, when you are excited at the prospect of seeing your book done when you've never published a book before, and when promises are made from a glossy, professional-looking website that you don't know won't deliver, whilst you wait patiently, it's easy to be hoodwinked. ......AND surely if they're charging that much, they must be ok, right? WRONG.... It's so important to do your research, check testimonials, ask existing and past clients what the service was like and read the small print in any contract put in front of you. Take legal advice if you have to - pay once now or pay lots more after the contract is signed. So - Writer Beware! Be careful, take your time, do your research and avoid the angst. You've spent time and care on your book - take time out once you're done writing it and give the same time and care in choosing who you work with. It's your book baby, treat it like one. Writer Beware® is a website that you may find useful - it warns about literary schemes and scams. It's definitely worth a look. I'll add the link in the comments. (Photo by Julien L on Unsplash)

Book Branding and PR - but what has branding and PR got to do with the fact that you are writing a book? Whilst we (TBWR) are here to help aspiring authors get their books produced, we know that there's a lot more to getting a book sold than just writing it. We haven't got all the answers but we will share with you what we've learned from experts we've met on our Author Journey. Here's 3 people who can help you to learn more about why Branding and PR are so important. We recommend them. Ella Orr - If you want to sell your book, you need to get your head around the fact that you are creating a brand - for you and your book. Knowing what that looks like will help you be 'seen' when you talk about your author journey and your book. We've worked with Ella and she's brought us clarity on what she calls brand 'Superpowers'. Susan Payton - Susan has a great book called 'The Business of Stories' - storytelling is a big part of PR. Making your book 'newsworthy' and learning how to build your fan club on your book-writing journey is another skill. It's vitally important if you want to sell your book to anyone who isn't a friend or family! My copy of her book is well worn and Susan is a great storyteller too. Her book is still in the top 100 best sellers on Amazon and it's been out a while. Louise Third MBE - 'Plan it, Sustain it, Make some Noise!' - 3 straplines on the front of her book 'PR on a beermat'. I'm in the middle of reading this and there's lots of great tips on how to do 'PR'. It's not easy learning all of this 'stuff' but it's important. We are on the Author Journey too and it's a challenge getting it all learned, applied properly and ticked off that to do list. But, it has to be done if you want any kind of success with your book. We hope you find these recommendations useful and if you've come across experts in their field who might be of help to other aspiring writers, please share them with us. #BookPR #TBWRTips #TheAuthorJourney Photo by Jon Tyson on Unsplash

  • Good advice for anyone thinking of writing a business book

Publisher | Speaker | Interviewer | Author, Exploratory Writing | Host, Extraordinary Business Book Club podcast

“I’m going to write the manuscript first…” Please don’t. I hear this a lot (most recently this morning), and I get it. There’s all sorts of fear and uncertainty around writing your first business book. You don’t even know if you CAN, so it makes sense to write the manuscript first then think about publishing, right? Wrong. However you plan to publish, getting clarity on your concept and structure at an early stage and ideally getting feedback too is what’s going to make all the difference. If you plan to pitch your book to traditional publishers and/or literary agents, you’ll need to provide a proposal with a sample of text rather than the full manuscript. Very often a commissioning editor will want to discuss the concept with you and perhaps shape it to fit better with their list and target market – that’s going to be a much more cheerful conversation if you haven’t just sunk a year of your life into writing the full manuscript. But even if you DON’T plan to approach traditional publishers, do that work of creating your proposal first. It forces you to get clear about the fundamentals: Who is the book for? What problem is it solving for them? Why this book, and why you as the author? How will you sequence and present your ideas? What do you need to put in place NOW to be able to market it effectively on launch? And once you’ve done that thinking – test it out! Do your target readers recognize that problem? What questions are they asking about it? What else are they reading and how will your book fit alongside that? Ideas need sunshine – they thrive when they’re discussed and developed. Don’t lock yourself away in your room to write your manuscript from the ground up then launch it on an unsuspecting world; talk about it before you’re ready and take a top-down approach to both the big idea and the structure. And if you want to get professional editorial input too, consider my 10-day Business Book Proposal Challenge, which begins again on 22 April, or send through your early thoughts for a concept review. Find out more about both on my website! #businessbooks #bookproposal #manuscript #ideation #writing
