More than 70 years of greyhound racing at Abbey Stadium in Swindon set to end later this year 🐶⏰ Gaming International, the owners of the Abbey Stadium in Swindon, have announced the intended closure of greyhound racing at the venue. For the remainder of the year, greyhound racing will continue at the stadium, before closing following the last scheduled meeting on 30 December 2025. It will mark the end of 73 years of greyhound racing promotion for the company. The decision to make an early announcement of the intended closure was said to provide time for discussions with staff, work with greyhound trainers to support their livelihoods and supporting the welfare of greyhounds who will be retiring from racing. Bristol’s 19,500 capacity arena which has been hit by years of delays “to open in 2028” 🏢🗓 YTL Arena Bristol, the city's long-awaited entertainment complex, was initially announced in 2018, with developer YTL Developments (UK) Limited saying it could be open by 2022. In 2023, YTL then announced it had been delayed to "late 2025 to early 2026" but with a larger capacity from 17,000 to 19,500. However chief executive Colin Skellet has now told the BBC it "will open in 2028" and is "ready to go", after "lots of pricing, lots of detail". Construction materials manufacturer opens €200m plasterboard manufacturing facility in Bristol ⚙🏢 The move marks Etex's largest production investment ever and a commitment to UK manufacturing as the industry grows. The firm's manager for UK and Ireland spoke to Insider about the investment. The expansion, which produces plasterboard for the Siniat brand, was said to be the company’s most efficient plasterboard production line in Europe when considering its line size, speed and complexity. It is situated to the south-east of the former brewhouse of the Eldridge Pope brewery which has been converted to 29 flats. The Maltings building was constructed in 1879 to the designs of George R. Profits rise at battery maker despite fall in turnover - expects to maintain profits for the “foreseeable future” 🔋📈 Wiltshire-based battery maker GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd has reported a rise in pre-tax profit in its latest financial results, although turnover fell slightly. The company, which has its UK sales facility in Swindon, is the European arm of Japanese battery maker GS Yuasa which manufactures and sells automotive and industrial batteries. According to the latest accounts for GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd, pre-tax profit rose to £7.1m in the 12 months to 31 March 2024 from £18,000 the year before. But turnover dropped to £333.5m from £336.2m in 2023. The results include manufacturing and procurement company GS Yuasa Battery Manufacturing UK Ltd, as well as sales operations in based in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
