💙Therapeutic Thought for the Week... the importance of SAFETY 💭Consider how well YOU can concentrate, succeed or have a positive mindset when you feel even just a little anxious? Don't underestimate the impact that creating a sense of SAFETY (through emotions and environment) can have on children and young people. So, whether it’s in Education, Residential or Foster Care, ask yourself: “How safe does this young person feel right now? "What shall I say or do or how can I act to ensure greater feelings of safety?” Give it a go – if you see disruption, reflect on how you can help a young person feel safe.

Saturday 8th March is International Women’s Day. Since 1911, IWD has been an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women and promote gender equality. Although great progress has undoubtedly been made in this field, many issues affecting women’s rights have yet to be resolved. To this end, this year’s international theme is, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” Around ¾ of Compass’ current workforce are women – many of whom are in senior roles. As a part of Compass’ celebration of International Women’s Day, some of our senior female colleagues have shared their thoughts on working at Compass. You can find a brief selection of their quotes on slide 2. Compass Community Schools Compass Children's Homes Compass Fostering #internationalwomensday

💙Therapeutic Thought for the Week... 💭We all need to establish a sense of BELONGING somewhere and with someone; it is at the core of feeling a sense of connection with a person, a group and even a physical place. It can be incredibly isolating when we don’t feel we BELONG and this will naturally impact many aspects of our lives if this key feeling is affected. Once established, the feeling of BELONGING forms the base for potential growth and development. The majority of children in Care have endured numerous moves and need help to establish a sense of BELONGING through trust, consistent relationships and experiences. Even simple experiences such as having a bedroom for long enough to fully call their own or symbolic messages of being part of a family group can make a positive difference. 🤝So, have a think... what more can you do to help a child in your care feel a greater sense of BELONGING? Let us know in the comments belong some ways in which you encourage the feeling of BELONGING...

This year, Ramadan begins on the evening of Friday 28th February. It officially starts when the moon is sighted, and runs for between 29 and 30 days. It is expected to end on Sunday March 30th – but this will also depend on the moon being sighted. During this month, Muslims observe a strict fast from dawn until sunset. Fasting is a private act of worship as well as a form of spiritual discipline. Ramadan is also a time for reflection, prayer, doing good deeds and spending time with family and friends. Following the month of Ramadan, the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, meaning ‘Festival of Breaking the Fast’, will begin. It is a time of joy, gift giving and spending time with loved ones. 💙 Therapeutic Thought for the Week The positives of having ADHD... Having ADHD can be difficult to navigate at times, and when the challenging aspects are more prevalent, it’s also important to recognise and celebrate all the positives of ADHD too! 🔎Take a look at just some of the skills and attributes that someone with ADHD may have: resilience, creative thinking, empathy, musically talented, protective... Can you recognise some of your own qualities or those of a child in your care?
