Edwardian elegance at the foot of the Pentland hills.

About us

The Craigie Hotel, a stunning Edwardian house, situated just in the town of Penicuik at the foot of the Pentland Hills. The impressive property was built in 1885 for the eminent zoologist James Ewart, Professor of Natural History at Edinburgh University. He is remembered for his pioneering genetic work with zebras, which once roamed free in the grounds here. The newly refurbished listed building boasts 17 boutique bedrooms, stylish restaurant and bar, and superb event facilities for weddings, parties, conferences and all other occasions. The property sits within lovely, leafy grounds which include a large secluded beer garden and contemporary timber “pod” which can host up to 40 people for private meetings and smaller events.
