Collaboration wins every time.... Feeling super grateful for network leaders like Annabel Bailey who is all for collaboration and lifting each other up along the way If you haven't yet come across Pally Talk go check them out now and let us know in the comments what you love about networking NETWORK LEARN GROW 💥
It was amazing to finally meet Pally Talk member, supporter and contributor Jodie Mears FInstAM in person at our first event last month. Since then, we've been delving the blog archives of her popular The Crodie Files Podcast to sink our teeth into even more of her advice for those in the administrative profession. We love Jodie's mantra of 'Network, Learn, Grow' and we couldn't agree with it more, but with so many self employed VAs, PAs and EAs in the industry we don't all have access to corporate training budgets. So, the latest blog - featuring corporate PA and self described 'life long learner' Julie Twist - caught our eye, as it helpfully compiled a number of free resources that are available to support your professional development. Give it a read, and share any favourite resources of your own with the rest of the Pally Talk community in the the comments https://lnkd.in/eKvHrGsi

Do you have a personal brand? Of course you do - everyone does. Prompted by this recent article by Jodie Mears FInstAM, my thoughts are: 💡 Build relationships - opportunities may not come your way if people don't know who you are 💡 Be visible - not just within your team, but within your firm, and online 💡 Learn! and share that learning whether it's hints, tips and information on LinkedIn, or within your team / firm. Cost is no barrier - link in the comments to my recent The Crodie Files Podcast article! Many years ago, I remember attending an internal workshop at the firm where I had worked for a number of years. An employee from another department asked who I was, as they didn't know me. I've never forgotten that. It's important that you are not only a familiar face, but also what you are known for. https://lnkd.in/eqtB_ZBe

Own your choices and align them with what truly matters. 💡 Remember this always: You can't pour from an empty cup. Your well-being isn't selfish - it's essential. What strategies work for you? How many more of you feel this way? Our co-host was wearing her heart on her leave and reflecting on what was holding her back in her article for Executive Support Magazine recently... Have you ever felt like this? Leave us a comment below 👇
Founder & CEO, Executive Support Media | International Keynote Speaker & Trainer | Author of Award-winning #1 Bestseller ‘The Modern-Day Assistant’ | Global Authority on the Administrative Profession | 48,000 + followers
I recently read this paragraph in a post by industry influencer, Jodie Mears FInstAM. “I felt stagnant as an administrative assistant, believing I had plateaued. In hindsight, it was a mindset of blissful ignorance, denying the need to go above and beyond my current efforts to fulfill my potential. With excellent performance reviews and positive feedback, I felt safe in my bubble and stayed there for a while.” How many more of you feel this way? Too many assistants—brilliant, capable, and driven—find themselves in a similar position. They perform exceptionally well, receive glowing feedback, and yet, they feel as though they’ve hit a ceiling. Without a defined career path, they stay safe within their bubble, not necessarily aware of just how much they could be contributing. The issue here is two-fold. First, without clarity on career progression, assistants miss opportunities for growth. They’re focused on doing their current job well, but without a sense of how they can advance or the skills they need to develop, they plateau. Second, the organizations they support also lose out. When there’s no clear path for assistants to move forward, the full potential of their role remains untapped. These professionals could be more deeply integrated as strategic partners, contributing at a higher level and driving value across the business. As a profession, we need to recognize and advocate for structured career paths. Organizations need to invest in their assistants, not only through skill-building and professional development but by establishing clear trajectories for growth. Assistants need to see that there is more beyond their current role—opportunities to expand, evolve, and create meaningful impact. Imagine the difference it would make if every assistant could see a clear path forward. How much more could they contribute? How much further could they go? Creating a career path for administrative professionals isn’t just about personal fulfillment; it’s a strategic investment that benefits everyone involved.
