An insightful new study by Earthshot Prize Finalist Pristine Seas reveals the vital action that is needed to conserve 30% of our oceans by 2030! Find out more 👇
A groundbreaking new study by Dynamic Planet and National Geographic Pristine Seas reveals that the world needs 85 new Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) every day for the next 6 years to reach the global target of conserving 30% of the ocean by 2030 - in national waters alone. Despite country pledges, only 8% of our oceans are currently in some form of protection. The report proposes a scalable, cost-effective pathway to urgently ramp up effective coastal marine protection–where environmental and social benefits are greatest! With the United Nations Biodiversity COP16 convening next week, these findings are a powerful reality check. Governments must significantly increase their ambitions regarding the speed and scale of effective coastal ocean protection. https://lnkd.in/eR8VTrAS Photograph by Jordi Chias, National Geographic Pristine Seas
