The extension to the sunset clause on the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) to 2035 has now been officially confirmed. HMRC Treasury has confirmed the extension of the Enterprise Investment Scheme relief and Venture Capital Trusts relief to shares issued before 6 April 2035. An extension to the clause was announced last November and passed through parliament in the Finance Act 2024 in February. Yesterday was confirmed as the appointed day that the extension came into force: “3rd September 2024 is appointed as the day on which section 11 (extension of enterprise investment scheme relief and venture capital trusts relief to shares issued before 6 April 2035) of the Finance Act 2024 comes into force.” Our thanks to the Tax and Technical committee chaired by Philip Hare, the EISA Board and all EISA members who have worked so hard with us to confirm this extension. Thank you also to partner organisations who have worked with us on this, including The Association of Investment Companies (AIC), British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA), Enterprise Nation, The Entrepreneurs Network, Startup Coalition, UK Business Angels Association, Venture Capital Trust Association (VCTA) among many others. Venture capital schemes such as Enterprise Investment Schemes… “have helped to create the UK’s world-leading start-up ecosystem”, notes CBI (Confederation of British Industry)’s new scale-up playbook: Growth Engines. Growth Engines identifies barriers businesses are facing when scaling, and outlines recommendations the government and business can work together on at pace, to unblock them. The playbook highlights Creo Medical as a successful case study where the tax support from EIS “proved vital for raising investment”, helping to de-risk investments in the company. You can read the full playbook, including further information on their case study, recommendations regarding pro-innovation regulation, unleashing investment, and harnessing our national assets, at the link below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eH9sCs2T #GrowthEngines Kapila Perera

Entrepreneurs, have your opinion on Capital Gains Tax heard in Parliament 👇 The Startup Coalition's survey on Capital Gains Tax, in conjunction with Beauhurst, will be presented to the Chancellor’s team in the Treasury, before proposed changes to CGT are made. The survey aims to measure how you would react to changes to CGT and what your thoughts are regarding how to best incentivise entrepreneurs in the UK. This is where you can make a difference before the Autumn Budget (where the proposals to equalise Capital Gains Tax with Income Tax may be on the agenda). The survey takes 5-10 minutes to complete. You can access it here: https://lnkd.in/e3b6F6di

Applications are now open for the EIS Association’s Regulatory Committee. The Committee focusses on understanding how the financial services regulatory landscape, including the FCA’s rules, impact the EIS/ SEIS industry. It uses that understanding to lobby for change and/or to provide guidance to members on EIS/ SEIS specific implications. Are you a lawyer or consultant familiar both with financial services regulation and the different ways in which regulated activities are used in the EIS/ SEIS ecosystem, or an individual who works within EIS/ SEIS firms (fund managers, corporate finance, advisers, custodians, etc.) and has a role involving, or a keen interest in, financial services regulation? If the answer is yes, and you're interested in joining the committee, please find more information at the link below ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eeN4pzg3 Please note, the deadline for applications is 6pm on Friday 18 October 2024. If you’re not a member and would be interested in applying, please get in touch with us.
