Omega Oil and Gas, a Brisbane-based exploration company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: OMA), has started drilling operations at its Canyon-1H well in the Taroom Trough, Queensland on 21 September 2024! 🛢️ They’re taping into a significant 4.5 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) gas resource using advanced horizontal drilling. This technique involves drilling sideways to access more of the gas-rich Permian Canyon Sandstone, a well-known reservoir in the region, resulting in a much larger exploration surface. 📊 Why does this matter? Australia's east coast faces an imminent gas shortage, with prices already averaging $AUD 14 per gigajoule (GJ). Omega’s project could play a major role in addressing this demand. They're partnering with Halliburton, one of the world’s largest oilfield services companies, renowned for providing technology, expertise, and services to the energy sector worldwide.
