Having recently appointed a new Chair, the Fairtrade Foundation is now looking for its next CEO. Since our establishment, the Foundation has been at the forefront of advocating for fairer wages, safe working conditions, and climate justice for those who produce the goods we consume every day. As we approach the end of our current strategy, we find ourselves facing a landscape of opportunity. This is a broad, varied role, bringing together elements of front-facing advocacy, transformational business partnerships, producer community empowerment, organisational leadership and big-picture systemic change. In brief, the role of our CEO will be to make sure we always know where we’re going and how to get there, ensuring that Fairtrade is grounded in achieving impact and justice for farmers, workers and communities around the world. As a multidisciplinary organisation, we are looking for an adaptable, strategic CEO with keen commercial acumen. With partners and stakeholders from politicians to media, from retailers to farmers and workers, it will be important for our CEO to regularly adapt to new contexts while weaving common threads through all our work, relentlessly championing the vision and mission of Fairtrade. Our CEO will be a key steward of our culture and will ensure that we remain cohesive and responsive to the needs of the communities with whom we are proud to partner. High degrees of emotional intelligence and influencing skills with clear decision-making ability will stand our CEO in good stead. Perhaps most importantly, we are looking for a CEO who shares our passion for an equitable and sustainable trade system, who can bring commitment and vision to co-creating a future world fairer to people and planet. We operate a hybrid working model, with staff spending roughly 1 to 3 days in our London office per week. As CEO, some international travel will be required, including ad hoc trips to Fairtrade origin countries. If this sounds like you and you are interested in hearing more about the role, please view our dedicated microsite for the role here https://lnkd.in/ex4HVXXX and reach out to our Executive Search partners Green Park on Ali.Hollingbery@Green-Park.co.uk Closing date: 11:59pm Wednesday 6th November 2024.

Because let’s face it - great coffee doesn’t just happen. It’s a labour of love and award-winning Fairtrade Coffee Producer, Adelmo Paz Alvarado, from Cafico in Honduras, knows this all too well. We shone the spotlight on three of our 2024 Golden Cup winners, including Adelmo, to understand what quality means to them. As one of the 2024 Golden Cup winners in Honduras, Adelmo represents the pinnacle of specialty coffee production – the highest grade of coffee you can get. ☕️ But what sets him and other Fairtrade producers apart is their dedication to quality and sustainability at every step. From handpicking the perfect seed to using eco-friendly techniques like agroforestry (think shade-giving trees, healthier soil, and more biodiversity 🌳), each coffee plant is nurtured with care and respect for the environment. 🌱 The Golden Cup is an annual competition, which sees Fairtrade producers compete for the most delicious speciality coffee of the highest quality. By choosing Fairtrade coffee, you’re supporting more than just a great cup of coffee. You're helping farmers build sustainable futures, helping farmers like Adelmo protect the planet, and ensure everyone along the supply chain gets a fair deal. 🌍✨ Sip with purpose today! #coffee #futureisfair #choosefairtrade #fairtrade Video footage by Sean Hawkey Photography. | Video produced by Der Tisch - Communications & Design Studio for Fairtrade International.

One week until Sophie Aujean, Fairtrade International's Director of Global Advocacy will be joining leaders across the coffee industry, speaks at the World Coffee Alliance’s World Coffee Innovation Summit London 2024. 🍵🌱 We know that coffee farmers are undergoing extreme challenges on multiple fronts – climate change, skyrocketing production costs, low farmer incomes, an ageing farmer population, and – however well intentioned – pressure from new legislation is adding significant barriers to smallholder farmers being able to sell their product in these important markets, putting their livelihoods at risk. Sophie will be taking part in a roundtable event at the summit to explore the connected themes of requirements on reporting and disclosure, their impacts on coffee producers and how to support their transition to sustainable agriculture practices. From the 16th to 17th of October connect and get engaged with your coffee, climate, and cross-industry peers to share best practices. We take note of the European Commission’s proposal to provide companies with an additional year to meet the requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation. While we initially welcomed that a key piece of legislation of the European Green Deal be implemented on time, we recognised and witnessed the critical challenges and market access risks that small-scale farmer organisations were facing to meet the 30 December 2024 deadline. Fairtrade does not want the EUDR to be diluted in any way. We believe in the objectives of the regulation to tackle deforestation and forest degradation by prohibiting products linked to deforestation on the EU market, however we continue to call for shared responsibility across supply chains when it comes to meeting these goals. That is why we will continue to drive productive and technical capacity building efforts within our supply chains so that our farmers and cooperatives are ready and able to provide the compliance requirements of our trade partners in the EU markets. We further call for the European Union (EU) to continuously engage and consult farmers and producers so that they are not excluded from the EU market due to a lack of resources.
