Educating frontline professionals to help #endFGM

About us

The Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) education began in 2018 with pedagogical research into FGM teaching and learning within UK medical schools. Our research has won awards and has been presented internationally. The results of our research led to us creating a 4 week educational course for frontline professionals entitled: "Female Genital Mutilation (FGM): Health, Law, and Socio-Cultural Sensitivity," with the aim of spreading education to medics and all frontline professionals on FGM and their mandatory reporting duty. We are passionate about multisector engagement in the #endFGM pursuit, and are always open to collaborations with like-minded organisations

  • 🚨 Workshops! 🚨 Did you know we deliver workshops on FGM? A few weeks ago, we attended the GLOW conference at The University of Edinburgh, and delivered our first-ever in-person FGM workshop titled: "FGM Education: What a Frontline Worker needs to know" The workshop was hosted by our co-founder Dr Victoria Kinkaid FRSA and our social media manager Vidhi Naik. We were so grateful to everyone who attended, and to our fabulous simulated patients Rou and Erin. Want to know more about our workshops? Drop us a message! #FGMEducation #EndFGM #MedEd

  • 🌍 Understanding the Impact of FGM on Female Anatomy and Health 🌍 At The FGM Education Project, we strive to raise awareness about the profound and often devastating effects of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on women and girls. 📣 FGM involves the partial or total removal of external female genitalia, which can lead to numerous immediate and long-term health issues. The procedure often causes damage to the clitoral and labial tissues, resulting in significant pain and loss of sexual pleasure. Check out our post to find out more 👇 By understanding the anatomical and health impacts of FGM, we can better advocate for the protection and empowerment of women and girls worldwide. Let’s unite to end this harmful practice and ensure a healthier, safer future for all. #EndFGM #WomensHealth #HumanRights #FGMEducationProject #HealthAwareness #GlobalHealth ******************************* PS: We are the FGM Education Project, and we are passionate about raising awareness of FGM amongst healthcare professionals and educating on their mandatory reporting duties! Final Year Education and Sociology BA Student at Durham University

I am happy to announce that I have completed a 4-week course on 'Female Genital Mutilation (FGM): Health, Law, and Socio-Cultural Sensitivity' with Future Learn (University of Aberdeen)! As a volunteer with Brook and Sexpression, this course has enriched my understanding of FGM's impacts, legal obligations, and cultural nuances, crucial for our sexual health education initiatives. I am grateful for this eye-opening experience, empowering me to advocate effectively for those affected by FGM. FGM is a highly sensitive topic but conversation and advocacy is vital if we are to end FGM and the stigma surrounding it. #FGM #SexualHealthEducation #Advocacy #EducationFGM #FutureLearn ✅ I highly recommend this course put together by The FGM Education Project ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
