  • Our co-founder and CEO had a fantastic day with the TikTok team. ‘Watch this space !!’ The IoDF team are beyond excited to be sort of the phenomenal cohort of experts, brands and content creators defining the future of the #tiktok platform.

    🏆 Honoured to have been chosen to be part of the #tiktok ‘ Collective ‘ A curated group of esteemed industry experts newly appointed by TikTok to guide the future of fashion for the platform. Hosted at TheNomad. 🌟 At the launch we had an inspiring shift to the usual panals and information sharing I’ve seen from brands or tech summits. 💪 Elevating a dead format > Kristina Karassoulis Lead a new model for Round tables and collaborative R&D 🥂 Champagne was served in a luxury setting, baroque music played with high tea. 🌹Small break out tables, for intimate round tables discussions. 🔥 Each table perfectly curated with a mix of creators, brand, TikTok rep and marketing experts. 🔑 MC’s ( TikTok team members ) took to the stage to introduce new products, inspiring moments and throught provoking questions. 🎁 We all in our groups discussed our answers and then joint a wider open room debate. 🏆🏆A winning formula indeed! Well lubricated 🥂 individuals all sharing and building solutions together. 🏆🏆 Chatham House rules applied, whilst TikTok’s product, research, and editorial teams will be present to learn, listen and engage.     📰 NEWS The Departure of Caroline Rush CEO of British Fashion Council What’s Next for UK Fashion? With Caroline Rush stepping down as CEO of the British Fashion Council (BFC), UK fashion faces both opportunity and immense challenges. For 16 years, Rush championed British designers and expanded London Fashion Week’s global presence, At Institute of Digital Fashion we have delivered many projects, digital initiatives and Red carpet events that all amplified the message that LFW is the innovation capital of Fashion Weeks. But her departure comes at a critical time for the industry. ⛔ Brexit and VAT-Free Shopping Impact Brexit has added significant complexity to the UK fashion industry: - A 33% drop in UK fashion and textile exports in 2021, largely due to new tariffs and customs rules. - EU customers now bear VAT and handling charges, making UK brands less competitive. - Loss of VAT-free shopping has cost the UK retail industry over £2 billion annually as tourists flock to Paris and Milan for luxury purchases instead. Textile Imports vs. Garments It’s important to differentiate between "textile imports" (raw materials like fabrics and yarns) and "garment imports" (finished clothing). UK designers depend on these raw materials, but Brexit has complicated the supply chain, increasing costs. 😎 Export and Import Challenges for UK Designers Post-Brexit, UK designers face: 1. 10-12% tariffs on fashion goods. 2. Customs declarations adding £200-500 per shipment. 3. Shipping costs up 35-40% due to new paperwork. 4. Increased administrative burden and rules of origin compliance. 💻 The Role of the New CEO The new BFC CEO must focus on: - Pushing for the return of VAT-free shopping. - Advocating for more favourable trade agreements post-Brexit. 🌐 Digital transformation From Studio Floor to Shop Floor - Embracing Digital Transformation 360 - Web3, AR/VR, blockchain, and Gaming to open new revenue streams and connectivity to new audiences. - Supporting sustainability and future-proofing UK fashion. Sharing work beyond the echo chambers and the social media platforms really does create an impact 🏆 The interview provided an excellent opportunity to   🗣 Reach a broader audience;  As we expand further into Europe. 🤸♀️ Beyond fashion; We are showing up at wider cultural events, not just fashion; the future is digital and physical, working together on the IRL X URL in unison. 🎶 Music matters;  Sonar festival was the first of our steps into music, we are broadening the IoDF landscape into cultural pillars, music, art, sports and gaming. 🔊 Raising awareness;  It was a chance to emphasise the importance of sustainable practices in the fashion industry. 🏆 Celebrating our achievements; I am incredibly proud of the strides we are making towards a more sustainable and innovative future for fashion, sometimes you need to look back and take a moment to applaud the work.
