Developing the professional, improving healthcare, transforming lives together.
About us
Physicists, engineers and technologists play vital roles in delivering our healthcare. The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) is the professional organisation that represents this diverse workforce. We are a charity with more than 4,600 members drawn from healthcare, academia and industry. Our mission is improving health through physics and engineering in medicine. Our members help to ensure that patients are correctly diagnosed and safely treated for illnesses such as cancer and stroke. They also maintain and manage medical equipment such as MRI and ultrasound scanners, X-ray machines, drug delivery systems and patient monitors. Their research and innovation leads to new technologies and methods that improve on existing medical treatments. They provide new solutions that enable older people and patients with injuries or long-term conditions to complete everyday tasks.

A great piece of research from Zahra Ahmadi Ganjeh, Brian Zapien Campos, Erik Traneus, Stefan Both, and Peter Dendooven The team developed and validated an MC framework using RayStation and GATE to support in-beam PET imaging for quality assurance in proton therapy. Including the short-lived isotope 12N makes this framework useful for near real-time verification, which is a significant step towards using 12N for real-time in vivo verification in clinical settings. This research is open access in IPEM's Physics and Biology in Medicine journal, published with IOP Publishing. You can read the full paper here https://lnkd.in/eeqUnJCM

We are supporting The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) to find a qualified accountant or someone with senior voluntary sector finance experience to join its esteemed Board of Trustees. The Honorary Treasurer will chair the Finance and Business Planning Committee (F&BP), which convenes four times a year, typically online. Additionally, the Treasurer will serve as a Trustee and Director of IPEM, participating in four Board meetings annually—two in York and two in London. Contact Helene Usherwood or Sophie Rees for a private conversation or learn more about the role here: https://lnkd.in/eQ3wpxHM #FinanceJobs #BoardofDirectors #FinanceCareers #Treasurer
