Dr. Anna Barnes FIPEM, IPEM President, commented: “The Board of Trustees will begin working to appoint a new Chief Executive who can take IPEM to the next level and ensure that we are an organization that values, promotes, and develops our members and the essential professions they work in across healthcare, academia, and industry. “We thank Phil for his years of excellent service and for all that he has achieved to move IPEM forward and wish him all the best for the future. IPEM is in a strong position, expanding as an organization, and increasing our reach, influence, and impact. Our exciting and ambitious strategy focuses on our vision of developing the profession, improving healthcare, and transforming lives together. Phil has worked hard to build a strong and effective management team, including Deputy CEO Claire Sharpe, and I am confident that we will maintain our momentum in the year ahead.” More information on the search arrangements will be available in due course. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to IPEM.

About us
Physicists, engineers and technologists play vital roles in delivering our healthcare. The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) is the professional organisation that represents this diverse workforce. We are a charity with more than 4,600 members drawn from healthcare, academia and industry. Our mission is improving health through physics and engineering in medicine. Our members help to ensure that patients are correctly diagnosed and safely treated for illnesses such as cancer and stroke. They also maintain and manage medical equipment such as MRI and ultrasound scanners, X-ray machines, drug delivery systems and patient monitors. Their research and innovation leads to new technologies and methods that improve on existing medical treatments. They provide new solutions that enable older people and patients with injuries or long-term conditions to complete everyday tasks.

Ahead of the 2024 General Election, IPEM has published a full manifesto for the future of medical physics and clinical engineering. The manifesto contains a number of key actions that the next Government must take to: - address the medical physics and clinical engineering workforce crisis - introduce statutory registration for clinical technologists - create the capacity for UK generation of medical radionuclides - ensure AI is deployed in the interests of patients - ensure environmental sustainability for future generations by investing in the long term. After the election, the manifesto will be sent to all new Ministers, Shadow Ministers and all newly elected MPs after the election. IPEM's manifesto builds on its ongoing public affairs work, which has recently seen a series of questions about medical physics and clinical engineering asked in Parliament and engagement with the Government around promoting apprenticeships to aid recruitment. Busy morning for Day 2 of "Everything MRI, All at Once" at Newcastle University. Great to see delegates and exhibitors interacting and plenty of interest in the 10 posters, all in the beautiful surroundings of Kings Hall. Following the first plenary session which included talks from #JenniferMacfarlane, there was a full room for the Horizon Scanning session, with the parallel Early Careers session equally as well attended. Join our Future Skills Commission! Following the development of the Science Leadership Strategy and the Science Leadership Day in 2023, it was identified that IPEM had several challenges and responsibilities with regards to the future of our workforces, with a need for providing a platform and discussion forum to better understand, prioritise, design and develop the technical and professional workforce of physicists, engineers and technologists in medicine. A new Future Skills Commission is being established, which will deliver relevant actions to IPEM and other bodies to achieve this goal, ultimately leading to an increase in our offering to support the workforce and building our customer base. The Commission will, among other things, consider skills gaps (including multidisciplinary skillset and opportunities), discuss and consider changing technologies and outside factors which will affect the industry and consider the overall future clinical, academic and industrial settings for the workforce. The deadline to volunteer to join the Commission is Sunday 30th June and you can apply via our website here: https://lnkd.in/dct7xvRP
