The Institute is geared to serving the professional needs and interests of over 3,000 members worldwide.

About us

A key aim of the Institute is to support its members’ professional and personal development and the sharing of best practice. We keep our members informed of current issues through our magazines, publications and a comprehensive website. Our conferences and meetings offer opportunities for networking with other professionals from the UK and overseas whilst the Forum Service continues to attract new organisations each year; the current membership now exceeding 200. We seek to influence the course of legislative and professional matters through dialogue with government bodies and other professional organisations and through commissioning and conducting original research. This is led by the Institute’s three Faculty Boards; Local Taxation and Revenues, Benefits and Valuation. The Institute has a membership of over 3,000 and offers a range of qualifications covering its professional fields. It is a nationally approved awarding body for its vocational and examination-based qualifications. Each year, in excess of 300 students sit our examinations and vocational assessments. Successful students join the thousands of IRRV qualified professionals currently working in both the public and private sector within the fields of revenues, benefits and valuation. IRRV qualifications and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme are designed to meet the needs of members at every stage of their careers. A thriving network of Associations is one of the IRRV’s main strengths. Our Associations organise programmes of professional and social activities that take place regionally and provide the opportunity for all members to become more involved in the work of the Institute.

Have you read the latest copy of IRRV Insight? In the August edition we follow up on our last edition, with a report on the address given by Jonathan Russell CEO of the Valuation Office Agency setting out their work and objectives recently, now and going forward. Gary Watson asks, ‘What’s in store for the next session of Parliament’ and our News, Events and People section provides an update on members and key people across our profession. The President, Nick Rowe has been travelling the country visiting Association events and we are pleased to cover these along with two articles on a couple of the Institute’s education; covering Apprenticeships and Distance Learning. Valuation Matters also provides an update on two recent Valuation Tribunal cases concerning locality for material change in circumstance appeals as well as an update on the whole life carbon assessment standard from the RICS. It’s 10 years on from the introduction of the ‘Taking Control of Goods Regulations’ and Russell Hamblin-Boone CEO at CIVEA looks at how enforcement firms have adapted to different issues. But, at the other end of the scale, the Statues of Marlborough have been around a lot longer and Alan Murdie looks at the oldest surviving law and its recent return to the fore. We carry our regular articles as Richard Harbord provides Viewpoint, Daniel Pearce provides an important update in ‘Technology’ on the launch and use of Rich Communication Services whilst in Landmark Insight we focus on a recent High Court case on a challenge to the disposal of community land involving Spurs FC.
