Owen Terry recently completed our final inspection of the luxury #carehome at The Bishops Avenue, Highgate, on behalf of Signature Senior Lifestyle Limited.  Visiting the development on a bright summer’s day, it was good to see the planting maturing, water features bubbling and, most of all, to meet some of the residents and staff who were enjoy the spaces within the gardens. When designing care home landscapes, we place great importance in ensuring high quality amenity spaces are provided, to promote mental and physical well-being and create an environment that residents can call home. The gardens contain an abundance of plant species, including native shrubs, trees and hedgerow planting as well as a sedum green roof, to promote and enhance biodiversity.   Sensory and growing gardens are available, as well as small private terraces, and sculptures, water features, and  a variety of seating areas are provided throughout. #healthcare #biophilia #landsapedesign #landscapearchitecture Fed3 Projects Limited; Anna Ramsden; PRP; CSP.

Congratulations to Boyer and Ganco Assets for winning this appeal. We are pleased to have played a small part, in meeting the #UrbanGreeningFactor requirements, despite the challenges of having no ground floor external areas to work with and a #RetrofitGreenRoof on an existing building structure.

Lucy has been back to school ! - pictured setting up for a day at a careers fair at Kingsdale Foundation School in the London Borough of Southwark. It's so important, right now, to promote landscape architecture as a fantastic multi-skilled, varied and fulfilling career choice, combining art and science, creativity and technology, people and environment. The Landscape Partnership were pleased, as always, to contribute our landscape, ecology and arboricultural services to this Frontier Developments scheme, working with this experienced team, including Gillings Planning and vestar* architecture + design. We are very pleased with the planning outcome and quality of the design as a whole. The CGIs really demonstrate how a high quality amenity landscape can be provided and enhanced through the accommodation of #BiodiversityNetGain, bat and arboricultural and #TreeProtection requirements.

So pleased to see that my conversations with Andrew Rylah have helped kick-start the Landscape Institute into highlighting this important #LandscapeSkillsShortage issue, summarised today in this excellent article in Building Design. The problem was exacerbated in April this year, when Government simultaneously removed landscape architects from the skill shortage list and massively increased the threshold salary to £45,900. There is a critical need for more #LandscapeArchitects in our industry in the UK and as applicants to our Universities. The application of the new full salary threshold levels to landscape architects, without a skills shortage 'discount' is insupportable for the industry and mis-guided. No prospects of post-graduate employment will lead to a reduction in overseas students; courses are already in danger of closing, and this will lead to a viscous downward spiral. Landscape architecture is a fabulous and valuable career and should be celebrated. As Emma Oldroyd said in her recent post, if we all went to one school, to raise awareness, what a difference it would make.
