The Irish Heart of London. Empowering and enriching lives through Irish community and culture. www.londonirishcentre.org
About us
In 1955, the London Irish Centre (LIC) opened its doors to meet the needs of newly arrived Irish emigrants. Initially providing accommodation and welfare, the Centre quickly became an important social and cultural venue. Today, the LIC continues to be the Irish Heart of London - the largest Irish community centre outside of Ireland and the largest Irish welfare charity in Britain. Our mission is to empower and enrich lives through Irish community and culture. Each year we support over 2,000 individuals and have over 20,000 attendees at our arts, culture and educational events. Last year our services were remodelled in response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. We have supported people through hot meal delivery, food parcels, advice, telephone befriending, a health and wellbeing advice line, library outreach and an online cultural programme. Working with our patrons, Dermot O’ Leary and Ed Sheeran, Board of Trustees, and the wider community, the LIC is in the early stages of an ambitious redevelopment project to create a world class culture and community centre in Camden over the next five years. London Irish Centre - Registered Charity No: 1149787, Company No: 8221421.

It's Befriending Week! This service improves mental wellbeing and helps to combat loneliness, by connecting people with dedicated volunteers for regular phone calls or home visits. 💚 “I really like her visiting me - we’ve the same sense of humour and have a laugh. We talk about TV as we watch the same kind of thing” - Bridget (client) “Befriending is the most enjoyable and rewarding experience. Being able to make someone smile and laugh when they're feeling so lonely and isolated. I'm so glad I’m volunteering with LIC” - Helen (volunteer) Help us spread the word this week and raise awareness for this vital service. #BefriendingWeek #Befriending

We recently launched this month’s artist exhibition by Niall MacCrann. Niall has been involved with the LIC for a long time, so it was a great opportunity to gather together and celebrate his brilliant work. “It was incredible to have such a good turnout, and to hear from so many people that my paintings spoke to them. I spoke on the night about how one of the paintings relates to having a bit of land somewhere that you have a connection to, and how fortunate I felt to have that. I now also feel so fortunate to have a strong connection with the London Irish Centre, and am so excited for future projects and collaborations here.” Niall’s exhibition, titled Do you Feel Irish? explores the theme of feeling “sort of Irish”. His work draws from an extensive collection of observational drawings made in bars, trains, pools, and gigs, both in his native Dublin and at the LIC. Come and immerse yourself in this unique exploration of Irishness and belonging.
