A world leading mass participation events company. We aim to inspire activity 🏃♀️🚴♀️🏊♀️

About us

London Marathon Events (LME), together with its parent charity, the London Marathon Foundation, works to inspire activity in all ages, abilities and demographics. LME is a world-leading mass participation events organiser and every year more than 500,000 people take part in its mass or virtual events, primarily in running, cycling and swimming. The company and charity were created by Chris Brasher and John Disley, co-founders of the London Marathon. First held on 29 March 1981, the London Marathon has grown into the most popular marathon on the planet, with more than half a million people now applying for a place in the ballot. It is the world’s biggest one day annual fundraising event and has raised more than £1.1 billion for charity. LME now organises more than twenty mass participation events each year and passes its surplus through corporate gift aid to the London Marathon Foundation, which has awarded grants totalling more than £100 million to projects that inspire people to become and remain active. LME’s event portfolio includes: • TCS London Marathon, TCS London Marathon My Way, TCS Mini London Marathon and TCS Mini London Marathon in schools • Ford RideLondon (featuring 100 mile, 60 mile and 30 mile challenge rides, FreeCycle and the Ford RideLondon Classique, a three day UCI Women’s WorldTour stage race) • Brighton Marathon Weekend (Brighton Marathon, BM 10K and Mini Mile) • Vitality London 10,000 • Vitality Westminster Mile • The Big Half, The Big Relay and The Big Mile • Swim Serpentine • The Royal Parks Half • Standard Chartered Great City Race

"It's just been a dream to complete the London Marathon". ❤️ This year, Dr. Julie McElroy MBA was the first female frame runner to ever take part in the TCS London Marathon. Julie completed the iconic 26.2 mile course alongside her support runner Gill. The pair were brought together through the The Richard Whitehead Foundation Supported Runner Programme, in partnership with Nissan. Support runners are volunteers who are experienced runners and trained to provide disabled people with the support, access, encouragement, and motivation they need to take part in a mass participation running event. Well done Julie and Gill!

The future is active! 💥 👟 Last week, children from primary schools across north London attended a free Athletics for All event at Lee Valley Athletics Centre. 2008 Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu, three times Olympian and triple jump World Championships silver and bronze medallist Yamile Aldama and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Montell Douglas, were among the stars putting youngsters through their paces. This event was focused on inspiring activity among under-represented young people and increasing awareness of the Lloyd Cowan Bursary - a fund set up in honour of the international hurdler and world-leading coach who died in 2021. As Cowan helped a number of athletes achieve great success on the global stage, the bursary set up in his name supports the next generation of UK athletes and coaches, especially those for whom cost is a barrier to achieving their potential in the sport.
