Kent's engine house for the performing arts
About us
The Marlowe is Kent’s regional theatre. As one of the UK’s most successful touring venues, we present a rich and diverse programme of drama, musicals, dance, opera, music, pantomime, new writing, poetry and comedy in our state-of-the-art Theatre and Studio. The Marlowe’s mission is to be the engine house for the performing arts in Kent, shaping the spirit of our region. Our ground-breaking work with young people focuses on skills development and includes technical apprenticeships, co-delivery of a UAL Level 3 Performing Arts course with East Kent College Group; being the national home of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures’ Cygnet School and the RSC’s Associate Theatre in the Southeast. We recently launched our Writers Room, developing regional talent and supporting our producing aspirations. We are an independent self-funding charitable trust, raising all our income ourselves without any core revenue funding from statutory bodies, reinvesting our profits in to our work with artists, young people and our communities. Above all, we value our team, and our award-winning People Plan is there to ensure that everyone who works for us is rewarded and supported.

A glimpse into the impact of Cygnet School! ✨🦢 Run by New Adventures, resident company at the Marlowe Theatre, Cygnet School is a groundbreaking, fully subsidised talent development programme for young dancers, which gives them the chance to gain access to more opportunities in the arts. Hear about how the programme has enhanced the lives of these young dancers, as they rehearsed for their end of year performance earlier this year. The Marlowe Theatre reposted this
This week, some of our team had the incredible opportunity to visit The Marlowe in Canterbury and take a behind-the-scenes tour. We were warmly welcomed by Matthew Clarke, Khost Howard, and the rest of the Marlowe team, who gave us a fascinating insight into the inner workings of this wonderful venue. It was truly enlightening to see the dedication and passion that goes into every performance and event held there. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eMNJZxFe #StaffExperience #TreadTheBoards

To mark #PensionAwarenessWeek last week, we were joined by the brilliant Cherilyn Tilbury from our Business Partners Pharon IFA Ltd - Cherilyn spoke to our staff about the best ways to plan for their financial future, including demystifying investments and ISAs, giving our staff the confidence to make these important savings. Many thanks to Pharon IFA Ltd for their continued support of the Marlowe and our team.
A big thank you to Cherilyn Tilbury from Pharon IFA Ltd for a super informative and helpful session this afternoon for the team here at The Marlowe Theatre. I’ve upped my pension contribution and I’m off to open an ISA all thanks to you Cherilyn!

We celebrated the official premiere screening of Doctor Faustus on Thursday, marking the launch of the Marlowe Sessions 🎬 With a glamorous red carpet, champagne reception, and a fascinating panel featuring some of the cast and creative team, we enjoyed the gala in style. Doctor Faustus is one of seven new films we're screening across the coming weeks - a world first in which Christopher Marlowe’s extraordinary theatrical canon is presented for the first time in its entirety. It's a tribute not just to our theatre's namesake, but a bold statement about the timeless relevance of his works. Congratulations to our resident company L6L21 PRODUCTIONS, who have driven this trailblazing approach to screening live theatre - this partnership is a testament to the collaborative spirit and artistic innovation that drives our theatre. 📷 Danny Kaan #TheMarloweSessions #Premiere #RedCarpet #Kent #Canterbury
