We had a conversation with Marie Freier about this year's UN International Women's Day theme, 'Invest in Women -Accelerate Progress'. We really enjoyed the conversation and hope you will too. This is a theme we at The McLean Partnership consistently champion in our work, especially in our work with clients. Ensuring that we support them to create gender equity in all areas of their business at all levels. A special thank you to Marie for taking the time to speak with us and share her thoughts on this topic.

Everyone has an interview story whether as the interviewer, or the interviewee. From the friend who when asked if they had brought their references with them, replied “I tried, but they couldn’t get the time off work”, to Guy Goma who turned up at the BBC for a job interview and ended up live on air. Neither of them, unfortunately, got the job. What top tips are there for people on either side of the table to make the process as effective, successful and (hopefully) as painless as possible? McLean's Nick Hart talks about ways to maximise the interview experience on both sides of the table. https://lnkd.in/gvC_JrWi

Global Competition for Talent – Opportunities for UK Universities and Research Institutions There's no doubt its been a challenging few years for universities and research institutions in the UK, but we've observed a shift in sentiment over recent months and growing optimism about the future, particularly in how UK institutions can compete and win in the global race for talent. Our universities and research institutions are amongst the very best in the world, and play a critically important role not just for the UK economy and society, but also in helping to solve some of the most pressing challenges facing the world today. Attracting, retaining and training the best research and academic talent is vitally important for the continuing success and impact of our universities and research institutions. The growing optimism may not be uniform across the sector, but I'd love to hear if this resonates with you and I'd welcome the chance to discuss any of this in more detail should it be of interest. #universities #research #innovation #talent https://lnkd.in/e3naRhfV

"Efforts to break through the glass ceiling in the City of London have been under way for years and now it appears to reached the highest job of all, with fewer mentions of “chairman” in annual reports". The McLean Partnership contributed to an article from The Times about the importance of language and how it has the ability to include or exclude us. This is especially true of listed companies who will continue to face more scrutiny on how they embed and integrate EDI in their organisation and language is one avenue to do that. Have a read and let us know your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/ehn-ahdW

Zoe Harris shares her perspective of women on boards, especially in light of International Women's Day 2024 theme of Invest in Women - Accelerate Progress. There is a global focus on increasing representation of women on boards, as we have made some progress but not enough. There is more we can do and mentorship is a great way to invest in women.

For Neurodiversity celebration week, we are resharing a webinar we hosted last year. Around 20% of the global adult population is neurodivergent, meaning they have a neurodiversity such as ADHD, Autism, or dyslexia. Approximately 1 in 7 people in the workforce may be neurodivergent – more than 15% of the UK population, but only 1 in 10 organisations say they consider neurodiversity in their people management practices. To be truly neuro-inclusive in the workplace, employers need to increase their awareness and appreciate the individuality of neurodiverse conditions through tangible support. We understand that it can be challenging to know where to start, this webinar is here to provide you with an overview of neurodiversity and what you can do throughout the employee lifecycle to be more neuro-inclusive. https://lnkd.in/e5R2wVqf

Graham Little Partner for our Higher Education practice shares his insights on how we can #investinwomen and #accelerateprogress their progress in academia. The Higher Education sector has made some progress in addressing the gender imbalance in the professoriate (women now account for 31% of all UK professors, up from 23% in 2014, although it’s worth noting that it remains as low as 16% in some RG institutions), but the pace of change is painfully slow, and women are still grossly under-represented in senior academic leadership. It's time for universities and the sector more broadly to take radical action: invest in women, particularly at early- and mid-career stages, provide more opportunities and support for career progression (including access to mentors and sponsors), and ensure that more women are encouraged and actively supported to develop their leadership.
