🛫 Our Chief Operating Officer Steve Maclaren was recently invited to a special New York screening of the Harvey Nash #TechFlix documentary 'AI and Robotics: A near future you're not prepared for'. 🤖 The film, which includes interviews with CEO at #TheNationalRobotarium Stewart Miller and academic co-lead Professor Yvan Petillot, is an insightful, thought-provoking immersion into the future of life, work and health in an increasingly robotic world. 🚀 The screening preceded a panel discussion, chaired by Omar Hatamleh, Ph.D Ph.D from event sponsors NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, on the ground-breaking impact of #Robotics and #ArtificialIntelligence on scientific discovery, space exploration and humanity. Special thanks to Omar and Christyl Johnson from #NASA and to Bev White, David Savage and everyone at Nash Squared for their hospitality and involving us in the documentary and event. 📹 Now streaming at: https://lnkd.in/eWSxmE87 📸:https://lnkd.in/eDWQCJ3x Brenna Barnett | | Jason Pyle | #robots | #AI | #HelpingSociety | #NationalRobotarium | Heriot-Watt University | Data-Driven Innovation Initiative

We welcome this week’s report from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. At the #TheNationalRobotarium, we're ideally placed to help the UK Government realise the transformative benefits of robotics and support the UK to drive forward a stronger robotics ecosystem. Our facility serves as a hub for innovation, industry collaboration, and the commercialisation of robotics technologies. We're seeing first hand how robotics can drive economic growth and improve public services, from health and social care to renewable energy. The UK has the talent and innovative spirit to lead in robotics. What we need now is the right infrastructure and policy environment to match. This report's recommendations align closely with our call for a network of specialised robotics facilities across Britain and Northern Ireland which could help to position the UK as a global leader in robotics innovation and manufacturing. We're proud to have contributed to this important report, and we look forward to continuing to play a key role in shaping the UK's robotics future. #Robotics #Innovation #UKTech #HelpingHealth #HelpingPeople #HelpingIndustry #HelpingSociety #TheNationalRobotarium Stewart Miller Heriot-Watt University | Data-Driven Innovation Initiative
New paper alert! In a New National Purpose report, Tony Blair and William Hague outline policy recommendations to strengthen the UK's ecosystem for robotics research and innovation. Robotics (or embodied AI) constitutes the next wave in AI development. While LLMs and GenAI are powerful tools, AI systems that can operate in the real world and learn from dynamic environments (from self-driving cars and delivery drones to precision manufacturing) hold great promise to accelerate economic growth and improve social outcomes. Unlocking this potential will require increased funding and incentives for innovation, investment in enabling digital infrastructure and responsible development practices, as well as effective, proportionate regulation. Read the full report here: https://bit.ly/3XXV164 The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change report was co-authored by Benedict Macon-Cooney, Luke Stanley, and Dr Roeland P.-J. E. Decorte. Many thanks to all experts from industry and academia who have provided valuable input and feedback throughout the process, including: Paul Clarke, Botty Dimanov, PhD, Eliot Dixon, Sarah Gates, Alec Jackson, Lars Kunze, David Lane, Stewart Miller, Alex Pejacsevich, and Nicholas Swanson.
