About us

In the 1920s the Midland Bank was one of the largest and most powerful in the world. To celebrate its achievements, the bank wanted a new London headquarters – a building that would stand out from the strait-laced Victorian architecture of The City. There was only one person to turn to: Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens, known to friends and family as ‘Ned.’  Lutyens, who was an architect for the rich and famous, spent the next four years drafting a vast 29,450sqm Grade-I listed building, designed to convey the impression of dependability and security demanded by a bank. The Midland Bank was later bought by HSBC, which remained in the building until 2007 when it relocated to a new head office in Canary Wharf.  Five years later, in 2012, Ron Burkle fell in love with the space and saw an opportunity to create a new approach to hospitality. He set about transforming the building into The Ned. The opening of The Ned in 2017 was one of London’s most ambitious hotel launches in recent decades, with a team working tirelessly for five years to repurpose the iconic building and make it relevant once again.  The Ned expanded in 2022 to include The Ned NoMad in New York and The Ned Doha in Qatar, with each building having their own architectural significance and history. Coming in 2024 is Ned's Club Washington, DC, the very first standalone members only property. Regardless of location, the ethos of The Ned and Ned's Club remains the same; to create a space for like-minded professionals to meet, work and have a good time. Working at The Ned and Ned's Club means having some of the best reward packages in the business, an inclusive workplace with a lot of fun, amazing teammates and endless opportunities to grow your career in hospitality. #lovethened

  • In the lead-up to International Women's Day, we wanted to celebrate all the fantastic women who make The Ned what it is today so we asked our team, "Who inspires you at The Ned?"—and the responses were nothing short of amazing. To honour those mentioned, we hosted screenings and captured the highlights. We’ve condensed hours of footage into under two minutes—we hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Happy International Women’s Day! #lovethened #IWD

  • We are excited for a sweet collaboration with Humble Crumble, the dessert specialists, to join us in here in London's Electric Bar & Diner serving a collection of nostalgic crumbles. 🍒 One special edition (available only at The Ned!) is the Black Forest Crumble, featuring cherries and blackberries topped with a chocolate crumble, finished with dark chocolate shavings, soft serve ice cream or freshly whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. These mouth-watering treats are available only until 26 March, so be sure to stop by and indulge while you can! #lovethened

  • What a week it’s been celebrating our London Engineering team! Maintaining our Grade 1 listed building is no small task. Originally designed as a bank, it’s far from a traditional hotel yet our incredible engineering team keeps it running smoothly and looking amazing every day. To show our appreciation our executive team have worked shifts alongside them this week, gaining first-hand experience of their hard work and expertise. To end this adventurous week, we wrapped it up with a final celebration! A huge thank you to Vydmantas Bitinas for organising these activities and shining a spotlight on such a dedicated team. We’re grateful for you every day. #lovethened

The Ned at Providence Row – Kitchen Takeover: Part 2 Supporting people experiencing homelessness in East London. A huge shout-out to the fantastic team at The Ned & Ned's Club, Jack Cohn, Lee Kebble, and Alysha A. who arrived bright and early on Monday, 10th Feb, to serve up a very special breakfast and lunch at Providence Row, near Brick Lane. For the 20 rough sleepers who joined us for breakfast and the 48 clients who sat down for lunch, this was more than just a meal - it was a moment of warmth, dignity, and connection - as well as being a delicious and hearty feast! Chicken or veggie pie, creamed spinach, mashed potato, homemade focaccia, and the ultimate comfort dessert - sticky toffee pudding. Tom Hill (Head of Philanthropy) summed it up: "It was a busy yet joyful day, with clients thoroughly enjoying their meals. The food sparked memories and conversations: One client shared their knowledge of making a béchamel sauce from when they had a home and kitchen of their own. Another suggested adding fresh mint to perfect the sticky toffee pudding. Two budding chefs in the making! As the team from The Ned left, our clients clapped and cheered. It was such a heart-warming moment to witness." A massive thank you to The Ned, City of London for your incredible partnership, and to StreetSmart Charity UK for making this collaboration happen. Partnerships like this make all the difference in our work with people experiencing homelessness as we can’t achieve all the desired outcomes alone. We’re so grateful and here’s to more moments like this! #Homelessness #Partnership #Community #SocialImpact

  • Today, we welcome the Year of the Snake with a staff canteen takeover. The feast for our team was carefully curated by Steve Othman, featuring dishes and desserts from countries that celebrate Lunar New Year. A huge thank you to Cristina Valdivieso and Alysha A. for organising the event and providing us with great insights into this special occasion. Beyond the amazing food, it was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the traditions and symbolism behind Lunar New Year. Wishing everyone prosperity and good fortune in the year ahead. #lovethened

  • We're thrilled to announce a culinary collaboration with Ivan Orkin, the celebrated chef behind the renowned Ivan Ramen in the USA. Ivan will debut an exclusive ramen menu at Kaia in The Ned City of London, launching on 20 January 2024, and available for two months only. Jack Cohn, our Food & Beverage Director says “we are so excited to bring Ivan Orkin’s ramen to the UK. This collaboration will create a unique guest experience like no other. Ivan is the singular most authoritative voice on ramen, and we think our guests will relish the opportunity to sample his incredible menu.” Ivan’s journey to ramen stardom is as inspiring as his dishes. Starting at a sushi bar at age 15, he developed a lifelong passion for Japanese culture and cuisine. After earning a degree in Japanese language and literature, Ivan moved to Japan to teach English, deepening his connection to the country’s traditions. Returning to the USA in 1990, Ivan graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and honed his craft at iconic restaurants like Mesa Grill and Lutèce before heading back to Japan to follow his dream of opening his own ramen shops. Today, Ivan is celebrated as the American authority on ramen, seamlessly blending Japanese authenticity with American innovation. Fluent in Japanese and deeply immersed in its culture, Ivan brings a unique perspective to his craft, bridging two culinary worlds. Ivan says "with the impending opening of Ivan Ramen in the UK, my love affair with London only deepens. The extended pop-up with The Ned allows me to start cooking in London before our restaurants open and present fun riffs on our menu, especially those tailored to the guests at Kaia." Guests at Kaia can look forward to savouring four of Ivan’s exclusive creations, which include: 🍜 Tori Shoyu Wonton Men: clear heirloom chicken, pork, and dashi broth seasoned with soy tare and shrimp oil, featuring shio koji marinated chicken breast “chasu” and delicate chicken wontons, topped with menma, and our signature thin rye noodles. 🦞 Lobster Mazemen: thick rye noodles coated in a rich lobster broth, topped with lobster meat poached in ginger-scallion butter and shrimp & katsuobushi salt, and finished with house-made XO sauce, scallop floss, and mentaiko crème fraîche. (optional caviar add-on available). 🥩 Iberico Pork Collar Tsukemen: a rich suckling pig pork broth served alongside thick rye noodles for dipping. It is topped with binchotan-grilled maitake mushrooms, pickled spring greens and succulent grilled iberico pork collar. A soft egg adds velvety richness to this bold and satisfying dish. 🍄🟫 Truffled Shoyu Ramen: truffled vegetable and mushroom broth layered with the depth of grilled maitake mushrooms, roasted tomato, yu choy, and fresh scallions. This comforting, aromatic bowl offers a sophisticated plant-based ramen experience (optional shaved truffle add-on available). Get down to Kaia to experience Ivan's delicious dishes before it's too late! #lovethened

  • It was festive lunch this week at The Ned City of London, and what a lunch it was. December is our busiest time of year so it’s important that we look after our team who do so much to keep the show on the road. With a menu created by executive events chef Leigh Pell, decor organised by Cristina Valdivieso, and all of our directors and heads of department on serving duty, it was a great day. We also shared our Christmas gifts with the team, which this year are exclusive Ned-branded water bottles from BOTL | B Corp™ in a festive gift box designed by our own India Davidson. There’s no better place to be at Christmas than The Ned 🎄 #lovethened
