The final part of this week's royal visit - osnosh - Oswestry Community Kitchen A momentous day for OsNosh – Oswestry Community Kitchen in Oswestry as they celebrated their hard-working volunteer team with a visit from the Duke of Edinburgh. 50 regular volunteers, including supporters from local organisations and students from St Martins school, came to enjoy a special buffet lunch prepared by OsNosh founder Ben Wilson. “With help from some of our regular volunteers, and students from the school, we’ve taken surplus food collected this week and turned it into a global feast fit for a Prince!” Ben said. Paul Newman from OsNosh added. “What Ben and the team have created today is just outstanding, and a tremendous way of thanking our regular volunteers and supporters for the fabulous work they do for the local community”. https://lnkd.in/epFd3pqb Photo Credit: Graham Mitchell/Oswestry Life Magazine

More highlights of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh's visit to Shropshire this week. His Royal Highness visited Park Hall Stadium – the home of the JD Cymru Premier champions. The New Saints FC Foundation is a registered charity established in October 2013, with a focus on using the positive influences and opportunities offered by the ethos, staff and resources of The New Saints Football Club to promote participation in community-based diversionary, fun, single or multi-sport activities. Now into its 12th year, The New Saints FC Foundation engages with over 1500 young people on a weekly basis with a team comprised of qualified teachers, sports coaches and youth workers. The Duke was met by directors and staff of The New Saints FC Foundation, before undertaking a tour of a Foundation and football club marketplace, comprised of stalls presenting the Foundation and the club’s work within the community. https://lnkd.in/e4-QzUEG Photo credits: The New Saints FC

Veronica Lillis DL represented the Lord-Lieutenant of #Shropshire at a ceremony in #Oswestry Council Chamber where luthier Steve Burnett officially handed over the violins and viola to the people of Oswestry. He crafted them from a branch of a sycamore tree that still grows in the grounds of the former Craiglockhart Hospital in Edinburgh where Wilfred Owen was treated for shell shock during WW1, and where he met fellow soldier, poet and mentor Siegfried Sassoon. The instruments donated to Oswestry (where Owen was born), include the Wilfred Owen Violin (pictured), the Siegfried Sassoon violin, the Robert Graves Violin, the Maggie McBean Viola (matron at Craiglockhart) and the Rivers & Brock Cello (named after the doctors who treated Owen in hospital). The Wilfred Owen Festival in Oswestry runs from 15 – 23 March culminating in a classical music concert on Sunday 23 March featuring the Wilfred Owen String Quartet of Instruments. https://lnkd.in/eiGKsbcd Oswestry Town Council #WilfredOwenFestival

Colonel Mark Cuthbert-Brown CBE DL was delighted to attend a recent citizenship ceremony in Shrewsbury, #Shropshire where 27 new citizens were welcomed to our wonderful county. Pictured here are Chairman of the Council, Vince Hunt, Jared Cowan and his parents - Chantel and Ray. This was the conclusion in a very long road from South Africa. In January 2004 the Government introduced a requirement that people aged 18 years or over, who are accepted for naturalisation or registration as British citizens, must take a Citizenship Oath and pledge at a Citizenship Ceremony. This is a memorable and enjoyable event that celebrates the important occasion of becoming a British Citizen. The ceremony involves prospective citizens making an oath of allegiance to His Majesty the King and a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom. They are held in our county towns of Shrewsbury and Telford to welcome foreign nationals who wish to become citizens of the United Kingdom. These generally take place every 4 to 6 weeks and are organised by the Shropshire Registration Service. At these ceremonies, new citizens are welcomed by a dignitary; either the Lord-Lieutenant, (or one of her deputies), High Sheriff or Chair (or Vice Chair) of Shrewsbury and Telford & Wrekin Councils The dignitary talks about Shropshire and reminds the new citizens of their rights and privileges as well as their responsibility to play their part in our community and society. The Lieutenancy is proud and privileged to play a part in this important event in people’s lives and, all those involved enjoy the informal role of meeting new citizens and welcoming them to our County. The Lord-Lieutenant of #Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner, was delighted to present the King's Award for Voluntary Service to Sustainable Newport Shropshire The global climate crisis has made local groups such as Sustainable Newport of critical importance in the finding and delivery of solutions. In extending awareness, it has encouraged people to adopt routines less harming to themselves and to others in the longer term. The Group’s vibrancy and scientifically backed advice make it a real asset to Newport and surrounding area, its volunteers leading other sustainable groups and offering huge practical support around Shropshire. Their work on plastics has been exceptional, helping many others to start on the road and to obtain plastic-free community status. Many congratulations to you on receiving this award! The Lord-Lieutenant of #Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner, was delighted to visit The Albrighton Trust and meet with their amazing team of volunteers. On behalf of King Charles, Mrs Turner presented the prestigious King's Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) to the Trust Chairman, Paul Murray. Mrs Turner also presented individual awards to the dedicated volunteers. Each award highlighted the unique contributions and tireless efforts of those who work behind the scenes every day. The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities -it is equivalent to an MBE for volunteer groups.
