Had a really great morning at Steiner’s School in Edinburgh this morning, talking about Homelessness, Rough Sleeping and the work we are doing at The Ootsider, to the Class 9 students. It was well received, the students were enthusiastic and engaging, and I was delighted with their overall interaction and genuine interest. We also went on to do an Ideas Generation exercise, which was structured and timed, and went down a real treat. Thank you Class 9 Steiner’s School for all your help, enthusiasm and contributions in helping make the lifestyle of rough sleepers that bit better. John

We exist to keep people warm and dry no matter their circumstances, situation or status.
About us
The company is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC), where the community are those individuals who are Homeless or Sleeping Rough in the UK for some unfortunate reason, not necessary of their own doing. We decided on a CIC as it allows us to take donations, grants, as well as being able to sell products. Based on that we have created a range of own brand garments that we sell to those who enjoy our great outdoors e.g. wild swimmers, campers, event goers, cyclists, hill walkers, dog walkers, etc, and reinvest the net profits from the sales of these garments for the manufacture and distribution of our Sleeping Coat …… completely free of charge ….. to those Sleeping Rough on our streets, parks or wherever they can find somewhere to lay their head. All of The Ootsiders garments are manufactured solely in Scotland as we focus on working towards Net-Zero Omissions, and the Circular Economy helping our environment, and as our business grows hopefully creating jobs. In summary, We exist to keep people warm and dry no matter their circumstances, situation or status. We do this by re-investing the profits from the sale of the products you purchase to donate our Sleeping Coats to Homeless individuals for free …… We also happen to make great Changing Robes

Tyra Watt was the winner of our prize draw at the Loch Lomond Go Swim event on 31st August. We had the robe hand-made to the colour and size of Tyra's choice, and this is it being presented to her mum Julie on her behalf. Julie was delighted with it. #theootsider #theootsiderchangingrobe #theootsidersleepingcoat www.theootsider.co.uk

With the weather turning a bit cooler, I had the opportunity to stop by Carrubbers Christian Church in Edinburgh this morning to donate two of The Ootsider Sleeping Coats. Situated on the Royal Mile, they provide a hot breakfast to homeless and rough sleepers every Sunday morning ... a truly fantastic initiative! I also had the pleasure of meeting the amazing Ali and Donna from the church, and we’re excited about the possibility of collaborating with them in the near future. I'm really looking forward to what lies ahead!

We all have different needs, requirements and budgets when purchasing a Changing Robe, which goes a bit like this:- Stage 1: You ask yourself what you really want, and how much you want to spend. e.g. “ ... I want to purchase a high-end, high-quality, waterproof, windproof and fleece-lined changing Robe within my budget, that meets my expectations on value for money ...” Today there are a plethora of Changing Robes on the market, but only a handful meet the above customer criteria. And after 2 years of listening to our customers and continually improving our product, The Ootsider Selkie is now one of them. So, you make an initial selection but still not to sure as three or four of them catch your eye and meet your requirements. So you move to stage 2. Stage 2: You look at The Ootsider again, but this time you ask yourself "... what's unique about this brand …?” And that’s when you find that:- * All The Ootsider Robes are hand-made in Scotland, with quality sewn-in with every stitch. * They are hand-made to order, meaning each and every garment is just that little bit different … unique to your individual order. You’re now liking The Ootsider Selkie (good choice by the way), and the fact they are manufactured in Scotland. But you’re looking for a wee bit more, and asking what their social impact is, and move to stage 3. Now you’ve got your eye on The Ootsider Selkie (good choice by the way), but is there anything else, e.g. is there a social benefit?, could I help someone else with my purchase? And that's when we move to the final stage Stage 3. So, you're now asking "... is there a social benefit, or does anyone else benefit directly through my purchase of an Ootsider? ..." and you find that:- * The Ootsider re-invest all Net Profits from your purchase to make and donate their own award-winning design Sleeping Coats to Rough Sleepers … for free. * Your purchase is helping improve the life of some of the most vulnerable individuals in our society, keeping them warmer and dryer … the two most basic of our human needs. How are you feeling about making your purchase now? “ … We are The Ootsider …” Take a wee look at Our Story and Products at www.theootsider.co.uk and always remember “… together we can achieve so much more …” Thanks for reading. Did you know … Women are often missing from rough sleeping counts because they tend to be less visible than male rough sleepers due to the risk of violence on the streets. The goal of The Ootsider is to keep rough sleepers warm and dry … two of our most basic human needs … whilst in this position, without judging or prejudice. www.theootsider.co.uk Together we can achieve more. Looking through some old notes I've collected from rough sleepers I've met over the last 2 years, I decided to put a wee positive story together using the word Rough Sleeper. I'll do a different variation tomorrow. Let me know what you think. www.theootsider.co.uk

The goal of The Ootsider is to keep rough sleepers warm and dry … two of our most basic human needs … whilst in this position, without judging or prejudice. Together we can achieve more. John
