Whisky galore! The Scottish government has approved a large whisky maturation facility in East Ayrshire 🥃 A DPEA reporter recommended that it be refused, saying that he was "not satisfied that the applicant has demonstrated that there are no suitable alternative sites for this proposal" allocated in local policy. The government disagreed, finding that the applicant had "provided a range of reasons” why none of the 26 alternative sites considered would be suitable for the development. A wee montage from last night's RTPI Cymru 25th anniversary celebration dinner. A fun evening - including a damnably difficult pub quiz - and good chats with the likes of Mark Hand MRTPI , Nia Roberts, Dorine Chantepie, Dr Roisin Willmott OBE FRTPIand other Royal Town Planning Institute movers and shakers. It was also very interesting to find out about the surprisingly recent genesis of RTPI Cymru from Aneurin Môn Parry MRTPI, the 2025 RTPI Cymru chair. Thanks for the invite - here's to another 25 years! #silverjubilee #happybirthday

Confessions of a curious mind... He's been a publisher, a vintage bookseller, an archivist for the Bodleian Library and Rothschild and Sons Bank. He's been a local authority planner and then a planning inspector at the Planning Inspectorate. He has ADHD and a relentless, restless curiosity that he struggles to satisfy, along with a powerful drive towards openness and inclusivity. Meet Richard Schofield, the chief planning inspector for England and cover star in last issue of The Planner. Words: Ben Gosling. That's a wrap on the very first Planner podcast, recorded this morning in the heart of London's Soho. We had a great chat with Robbie Calvert MRTPI from the Royal Town Planning Institute about the Planning and Infrastructure Bill, plenty of conversation about the purpose of planning and a tour of highlights from the latest issue of the Planner. PlannerPod episode 1 will drop some time in the next couple of weeks - we'll let you know when it's ready. In the meantime, big thanks to Viral Tribe for hosting us at their Soho studio and for making it such an easy experience. An inquiry into new towns by the House of Lords Built Environment Committee will examine their practical delivery and the implications of building on such a scale. Through the modular inquiry into new towns and expanded settlements, the committee intends to discover whether they are “an effective means” of delivering housing and how to ensure they are successful. ⭐ Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/ehMd4tAk ⭐ Information on subscribing to The Planner: https://lnkd.in/e5ieh38D

✒️ 😃 We're really chuffed to be the media partner for the National Planning Conference this year and to be sitting on the organising committee, too. 💷 So we encourage you to take advantage of the early bird booking offer which will give you a £50 discount on a full-price ticket. It's jointly run by the Royal Town Planning Institute and Planning Portal and it's going to be a good event focusing on discussions about how economic growth can be balanced with sustainable development at a time when these two vitally important issues are vying for priority. 🏨 The venue is the Hilton Hotel in Manchester on 9 October (though there's pre-conference drinks and networking the night before for those who arrive early) and we'll be there throughout - hopefully with some interesting contributions of our own to make it a lively and informative day. ➡️ Find out about the conference here (more details to come, obvs): https://lnkd.in/eB_Yu-3r ➡️ Book here: https://lnkd.in/efxYrswf #nationalplanningconference #npc25 #townplanning

"Whether you're an experienced planning policy officer or just starting out on your career pathway, Fylde Borough Council may have the ideal position for you. "As planning policy manager, you'll have at least five years’ experience in planning policy, managing teams, attending committees and presenting evidence at examinations. This will have developed your exceptional knowledge of planning policy and guidance, along with strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills. "As a planning policy officer, you should preferably have experience of working in planning policy. However, if you're only beginning your planning career we'll support you as you develop your knowledge and skills with the objective of becoming a chartered town planner. You should be well organised, focussed, forward thinking, analytical, a team player, and should have a flexible approach to work. "Why Fylde? With 12 miles of scenic Lancashire coastline, our borough offers an attractive mix of open countryside, small rural villages and traditional seaside towns.
