Since we published our business case for investing in early childhood, we have been working with companies of all shapes and sizes to talk about how they can get involved and play their part. It was a pleasure to be in Belfast talking to people from across the Northern Irish economy, as we look to mobilise this movement right across the UK. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eX88ApWw

Earlier this year, The Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood published a report setting out the business case for prioritising early childhood. Since then we have heard so many inspiring stories and examples of tangible action that businesses are making. The opportunity for business to drive, and benefit from, prioritising early childhood in the workplace and wider community is huge. We’re welcoming more businesses to join this movement and focus on how they can support early childhood to help create a healthier, happier society. https://lnkd.in/eF77USze

This #worldmentalhealthday, we caught up with three of our Business Taskforce members, IKEA, Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation and the LEGO Group, to discuss the importance of workplace mental health. Parental well-being is the biggest single factor in determining a child’s well-being, and we know that becoming a parent places additional pressure on mental health. We also know that parents make up a significant part of the UK workforce – 76% of mothers and 92% of fathers are in work. Employers have a huge role to play.

It is wonderful see another Business Taskforce inspired project go live! Taskforce member IKEA and the Baby Bank Alliance were brought together through The Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood. Supporting initiatives which help families facing the greatest challenges to access the support and essentials they need, is one of five areas of opportunity, identified in our business taskforce report, which, if systematically tackled by businesses, could have a game-changing impact – not only for young children and their families, but also our economy and wider society.
Play it forward – IKEA X Baby Bank Alliance We are delighted to announce that the Baby Bank Alliance is partnering with IKEA and their new SKOGSDUVA collection. This magical 26 piece range of products for children is inspired by the enchanted forests of Sweden. The range will lift children’s imaginations and inspire storytelling. Every child deserve a bit of magic! 🐝 🍂 🦔 🌳 🦉 To play it forward and support all babies and children in the UK, IKEA have partnered with the Baby Bank Alliance. £1 from every sale of the SKOGSDUVA range will be donated to the Baby Bank Alliance. This comes at a time of year we know is especially hard for families: homes to warm, increasing cost of bills and essential items, the pressures of winter festivities looming. For the families of the 4.3 million children living in poverty in the UK, affording everyday items to raise babies and children is a hard struggle. Baby banks are vital lifelines for so many, providing parents with support, and children with the items they need. Here at the Alliance, we support and advocate for the UK’s 300+ baby banks, so that every baby and child in the UK has the essentials they need to thrive. Our partnership with IKEA is a perfect fit: we know many of the preloved donations given by families to baby banks are often from IKEA, and IKEA’s ambitions for sustainable business practices and supporting those in poverty, helps us on our mission. IKEA and the Baby Bank Alliance were brought together through the The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood Business Taskforce. We are so grateful for their support and connection. How you can support baby banks: ➡ Visit one of the 21 IKEA stores or IKEA online to purchase the beautiful SKOGSDUVA range and support more children across the UK. ➡ Share our collaboration on socials, letting your friends, family and colleagues know about the new range supporting UK baby banks. ➡ Support families in your community by finding your local baby bank to donate pre-loved goods or volunteer your time. Visit our map to find the nearest one to you. https://lnkd.in/ejngaueG

A greater focus on early childhood could generate significant social and economic return, by improving early childhood experiences and increasing support for the adults around them. We're looking forward to the insightful conversations that will take place at this event! #UNGA
Early Childhood Development experts and business leaders will participate in a pivotal panel discussion on September 24 during the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) week in New York on how businesses can support parents and caregivers. The speakers will delve into how investing in parenting support and family-friendly practices not only enhances child outcomes but also reduces employee turnover, boosts mental health, and drives economic growth. Together, we’ll explore why supporting parents is good for business and sustainable development. We are honored to have the following speakers participating in the event: Bhavreen Kandhari, Warrior Moms Diana Ringe Krogh, the LEGO Group Dominic Richardson, Learning for Well-being Foundation Elizabeth Lule, Early Childhood Development Action Network (ECDAN) Emma Franklin, Deloitte Etienne Krug, World Health Organization Hirokazu Yoshikawa, New York University Lucie Cluver, University of Oxford Sarah Hesz, The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood #UNGA79 #ParentingSupport #SustainableDevelopment #FamilyFriendlyBusiness #WorkplaceWellbeing

It is wonderful see how our Business Taskforce member Deloitte is making improvements within their organisation that will have an impact on their workforce (and their families). As employers, all businesses have a huge opportunity to prioritise early childhood amongst their workforce – no matter how big or small. By providing support and resources, alongside flexibility and choice, employers will not only be boosting the wellbeing and productivity of their colleagues, they will also be contributing to a society which is better positioned to take on the challenges of the future. https://lnkd.in/eF77USze
📢 Deloitte equalises parenting leave! 📢 Today Deloitte is announcing its new equal family leave policy, ensuring all new parents will be eligible for 26 weeks fully paid leave. These changes are part of a wider, enhanced family and carers leave package for our people, including paid time off for: 👉 Neonatal care 👉 Caring responsibilities 👉 Fertility treatment We also commissioned new YouGov research of over 2,000 working parents, which showed that family leave is a crucial consideration for employees, with 85% of respondents saying that it is key for staying with a company. Our new policy demonstrates both the significance and value we place on looking after our people during some of the most important moments in their lives, as well as our commitment to equality. Thank you to everyone involved in the event we were so proud to co-host last week with the The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood at our head office in Manchester. We were so pleased to see the interest and engagement from some of Co-op’s key strategic partners, suppliers and community experts, as well guests from businesses across the North West. Supporting early years development has enduring, positive impacts on society as a whole and we, alongside the Royal Foundation Business Taskforce, recognise the important role that businesses can play in adding value to the lives of the youngest people in our nation and their families. A greater focus on early childhood would create a happier and more productive workforce today, and transform the health and wellbeing of the UK economy and society for generations to come. There are many ways in which businesses can make a significant contribution to this vital work - including supporting their own colleagues, contributing products and services, or engaging with early years community initiatives such as the Little Green Sock Project. Another option is to join our Apprenticeship Levy Share Scheme to create 600 early years roles 👇 https://lnkd.in/ehcj4ff9 My sincere thanks to Amanda Berry and Christian Guy for their amazing leadership, and to those business leaders who contributed such positive energy and ideas to this important discussion. Last week, The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood co-hosted an event in Manchester with Co-op to discuss the next steps for our work with business. The meeting saw a diverse range of businesses gather to hear more about The Princess of Wales’ vision for a healthy, happy society, transformed by our collective approach to early childhood. Businesses heard from our CEO Amanda Berry, and Executive Director for The Centre for Early Childhood Christian Guy, who set out the case for early childhood, highlighting the unique importance for the time from pregnancy to the age of five in terms of brain development and how the relationships, surroundings and experiences during our first five years, fundamentally shape the adults we become and the society we create. This is the first in a series of events which The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood are co-hosting around the UK over the coming months to speak to even more businesses to see how they can play a role.
