The Ri is an independent charity that inspires everyone to think more deeply about science and its place in our lives.
About us
The Royal Institution is an independent charity dedicated to connecting people with the world of science. Science shapes our lives, our culture and the world around us. It’s the medical treatment that may save your life. It’s the device in your pocket that connects you to the world. And it’s how we will solve the major global challenges of the future. Our mission is to harness science for the maximum benefit of society. The importance of our mission cannot be overstated. It was recognised by the 58 wealthy individuals who founded the Ri in 1799 and is just as relevant today. But to achieve the full benefits of what science has to offer, we must ensure that there is a healthy interaction between science and society – something we have pioneered for more than 200 years. There are multiple ways to get involved and support the Ri and to think more deeply about the wonders and applications of science. The Royal Institution is a registered charity, no 227938.

A joy and a privilege to introduce the 2024 Ada Lovelace Day at The Royal Institution last night. I meant to slip away early ready for an early start this morning but couldn’t actually tear myself away from the amazing speakers! Well done to all involved, and especially the inspiring speakers, the amazing founder Suw Charman-Anderson, FRSA and the fabulously pun-tastic Sally Le Page! A shout-out (a squeak-out!!) to anyone who was there in the Theatre or online! Photo credit: Paul Clarke / Ada Lovelace Day

Ada Lovelace Day is just a few days away now, and our live event at the The Royal Institution on Tuesday is not to be missed. But don't take my word for it, this is what Kate Viscardi of East Anglia Bylines said: The joy of science cabarets Science cabaret events in general tend to be really enjoyable (though I’m biased, having taken part in an Ada Lovelace Day event for Science in the Pub). Bringing together presenters from a variety of fields within STEM means people who might not ordinarily meet, get the chance to do so. That’s not just the presenters, but the audience too. Listen to Kate!! Get your tickets now to come along in person or watch online (with two weeks to catch up!). Ada Lovelace Day Live is back! The annual ‘science cabaret’ returns with a fantastic line-up of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), who will share their experiences, insights and expertise, inspiring and empowering the next generation of women in STEM. Last year, our very own Rosie Curran Crawley was part of the celebrations with her talk on Women of Wonder. As part of her talk she reflected upon her interactions with her school chemistry teacher, Ms Tratt, and how these reminded her of Jane Marcet's 1805 publication, Conversations on Chemistry. Don't miss out on this year's event. 📅 : 08/10/24 ⏰ : 7.30 - 9.30pm Buy your tickets here 👇 https://lnkd.in/ejUv7yxa
