Today marks the beginning of South Asian Heritage Month (18th July – 17th August 2024) and members of the SPTI Unity Focus Group including Asha Davies and Collette Colver have been hard at work collating contributions and curating a selection of articles, book chapters, poetry and other resources that reflect the experiences of those of South Asian Heritage in the UK.   Our celebration is multi-faceted. There is a physical display at our training venues. These will remain in place well into the new academic year so that students and visitors will have a chance to view them. We have also created an interactive magazine full of contributions from SPTI graduates Asha Davies, Rajan Rai, RHCP Practice Director Rima Sidhpara, research from Dr Shireen Patel from the University of Nottingham, reflections from therapists Rooksana Patel, Daniel Bains and Manisha S. Sheth and forthcoming events with Myira Khan Counselling Working Within Diversity- Anti-Oppressive Practice and Imtiaz Dharker. Educator Sonya Sayani and student Priti Lakhani also share their inspirations and motivations. A full interactive conversation between Asha and Raj about psychotherapy and identity will also be published early next week, and more content will be added as the month continues.
