Last week we were pleased to welcome Robert Kennett, Robert Dawson, Sven Heimann and Brendan Durkin of Eric Parry Architects for our latest Architecture Talk. EPA gave the TTC team an insightful presentation with the theme of ‘Up & Down, and a little sideways’, which showcased case studies of their work including Grade I listed St Martin in the Fields, Chelsea Barracks, The Leatherseller’s Company and 1 Undershaft, the tallest building planned for the City of London. We were particularly interested to hear about their creative use of colour and contextual response to sites which results in high variance in the work of the studio, giving each project a strong sense of place and uniqueness. Thank you to Robert and his colleagues for taking the time to talk to us – we look forward to working with the Eric Parry Architects team again soon!

Excellent to see the exciting news! This is a wonderful project to be involved in, which will really add to the variety and quality of #DestinationCity. It is a great example of how a tall building of high-quality design and generous public benefits can enhance a conservation area. A pleasure to work with such a talented team Shaw Corporation, Woods Bagot, Hertshten Group, DP9 Limited, Trium Environmental Consulting LLP , Millerhare Limited, Gardiner & Theobald LLP, as well as the enlightened planning team at City of London Corporation.
We were delighted that our project at 85 Gracechurch Street was featured on BBC national news last night as an example of how London’s archaeological heritage should be celebrated in new development. On behalf of Hertshten Properties (UK) Limited we will soon be bringing forward new plans for the site that look to display and open up public access to the remains of London’s first Roman Basilica, the original beating heart of Roman London and the centre of administration and decision making, all as part of a new immersive exhibition experience within the wider cultural offer for the development. We continue to work tirelessly in collaboration with partners including City of London Corporation, London Museum, MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology), Woods Bagot, and Gardiner & Theobald LLP to make this project a reality. This week TTC welcomed Rafael Viñoly Architects for an engaging Architecture Talk. Román Viñoly and Marco Ortiz shared insights on adaptive reuse and retrofit projects, highlighting challenges and showcasing innovative strategies. They discussed notable projects like 432 Park Avenue in New York City, its tall, slender profile contributing to its iconic status in the city's skyline, and the Battersea Power Station masterplan, which has revitalised the historic site. Other highlights included the expansion and renovation of the Cleveland Museum of Art, the reimagining of 787 Eleventh Avenue, the renewed CCNY School of Architecture and the transformation of Salon 94 into an art gallery. The talk also explored zoning and contracts in the planning systems of NYC and London. It was inspiring to see how Rafael Vinoly Architects navigate certain complexities to create impactful and sustainable designs. #ArchitectureTalks #AdaptiveReuse #SustainableDesign #InnovativeArchitecture

TTC have been involved with Brookfield Properties in the redevelopment of 99 Bishopsgate from the competition stages almost three years ago. We collaborated with a wider expert team on the formal definition of the proposed scheme at the northern edge of the City Cluster: understanding and mitigating its local and wider impacts on heritage and townscape during an extensive consultation process. On Friday, the City of London’s Planning Committee granted approval for this new 54-storey office tower of exceptional design quality combined with over 60,000 sq ft of vibrant and inclusive public and cultural amenities, set to transform the northern gateway into the City Cluster. Designed by RSHP, the scheme will significantly enhance the experience for workers and visitors while demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability. Vertical gardens and expansive terrace spaces will be visible in longer views towards the City Cluster from the north and west, defining a new feathered edge to its consolidated form. The development will also introduce seamless new pedestrian routes, connecting Liverpool Street Station to the heart of the City. These routes will be animated by extensive landscaping, the City Market - a vibrant 7-day-a-week food and beverage destination - and Open Gate, a striking standalone 6-storey cultural building programmed to attract new audiences. Positioned at the junction of Old Broad Street and Wormwood Street, Open Gate reflects input from young creatives across London. Yesterday we welcomed Nick Sinden of Stanton Williams for the latest in our series of Architecture Talks. Nick gave an insightful presentation about the studio and their ethos, which encourages a strong consideration of quality, flexibility, and the human experience. He then guided us through some of their projects that embody the studio approach, such as UCL East, Rhodes House, Norton Folgate, and the Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children. It was also great to hear about the ongoing work at Smithfield which will be a new home for the London Museum – a site that presented its own unique challenges and opportunities. We can’t wait to visit once the project is complete!
