The Workboat Association is the trade, skills and safety standards association for the workboat industry. Since its inception in 1994, the association has acted as a crucial point of liaison between its membership and key regulatory and industry bodies, such as the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and international Port States. It has also driven the creation of safety, technical and best practice standards, provided a unifying platform for industry lobbying and debate, and delivered industry-recognised training and certification opportunities. Core achievements include the introduction and subsequent revision of the MCA Code of Practice for the Safe Operation of Small Workboats – the “Workboat Code” and, the formation and development of the multi-national Maritime Apprenticeship Schemes - with syllabuses in process covering all duties on board commercial vessels under 500GT. The Workboat Association has a membership base of over 200 UK and European workboat owners, operators, stakeholders and professionals, collectively representing around 1500 operational vessels and approximately 6000 direct personnel. Supporting you to start your first day within the industry, to operating a successful global fleet of vessels.

On #MerchantNavyDay, 3 September, we invite everyone across the UK to celebrate the people behind the #MerchantNavy flag by flying the #RedEnsign, either physically or digitally. If you can't hoist a physical flag, show your support by sharing messages or photos on social media using #MerchantNavyDay and tagging The Seafarers' Charity. To help you get involved, we've created a toolkit with resources to raise awareness. Check out the infographic below for key stats and insights! Download the toolkit here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eY-hFKhV

As a result of consultation from Monday 5 August, Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) under 2.5 metres in overall length are now exempt from certification. The exemption comes as a result of feedback provided via consultation and forms part of our commitment to prioritise work specifically supporting the smallest MASS. This is the first step in a package of work to provide support to the small MASS sector (also known as MiniMASS). A further stage will determine a pathway for MiniMASS above 2.5 metres in overall length. A Marine Guidance Notice (MGN) has been published outlining an exemption to Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) of less than 2.5 metres in length overall. Thanks to those who have played a part in getting us to 30 years, especially our Members, and here is what some of them had to say about the WA...
