📢 Even very high levels of 'growth' unlikely to address poverty. Our research shows that a strong economy alone will not move the dial on poverty during this parliament. The government must include poverty reduction as part of its approach to long term and lasting growth. A strong economy can increase wages and jobs. ❌ But our analysis finds that during this parliament it will do very little to reduce: - Working age poverty, which remains broadly flat at just over 8 million - Child poverty, which stays around 4.3-4.5 million Even if the UK has the highest GDP per capita growth in the G7 and achieves an 80% employment rate... Poverty will remain broadly flat at around 14 and a half million people between 2024 and the end of 2028. There is something that both millions of families, and the social foundations of the economy, have in common: neither can afford to wait for growth. Investing in housing, welfare and public services must be part of the strategy now. 🔎 Read our latest analysis: https://lnkd.in/eb8Sj9T4
