About us
We are the industry-led body representing UK-based financial and related professional services. We champion and support the success of the ecosystem, and thereby our members, promoting policies in the UK and internationally that drive competitiveness, support job creation and enable long-term economic growth. The industry contributes 12% of the UK’s total economic output and employs over 2.4 million people – with two thirds of these jobs outside London – across the country’s regions and nations. It pays more corporation tax than any other sector and is the largest net exporting industry. The industry plays an important role in enabling the transition to net zero and driving economic growth across the wider economy through its provision of capital, investment, professional advice and insurance. It also makes a real difference to people in their daily lives, helping them save for the future, buy a home, invest in a business and manage risk.

In response to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government's proposed planning reforms announced today, our CEO Miles Celic said: “The motivating spirit behind these reforms is absolutely right. Updates to the current UK planning framework are crucial to meet the growing demand for investible projects and to drive growth across the country. The reforms are particularly significant for large infrastructure projects that will have a major impact on the wider economy and investment attractiveness. Our industry looks forward to continuing to engage with government on these proposals to ensure they provide the clarity, consistency, and speed of decision-making needed to unlock capital and growth.” Planning reform is key to driving inclusive growth. Commenting on Department for Business and Trade's announcement today that the UK is joining the WTO Joint Initiative on E-Commerce, our CEO Miles Celic said: “It is welcome news that the United Kingdom has joined the WTO Joint Initiative on Electronic Commerce. The Joint Initiative is the first ever global digital trade agreement. It is noteworthy that, once in force, the agreement will permanently ban customs duties on electronic transmissions between the parties – a provision long sought by TheCityUK and its allies. The agreement will be important for the UK-based financial and related professional services that TheCityUK represents, which rely heavily on the digitisation of international business. It will be equally significant for international trade in services as a whole. “At a time when many countries are developing protectionist measures it is particularly encouraging to see an initiative which by supporting cross border trade in services will deliver jobs, growth and exports, particularly for SMEs who are the backbone of the UK and many other economies.”
The UK and 90 other countries have finalised a groundbreaking global digital trade agreement at the World Trade Organization 📣 Here's how it will make trade faster, cheaper and more secure for UK businesses, workers and consumers 👇 More: https://lnkd.in/eT6H9FYV

As ever, the proof will be in its delivery - there is no time to waste to get our economy growing again. "Their intentions to further empower local leaders, tackle long-standing barriers to investment and growth in areas such as pensions, planning, and corporate governance and skills are also welcome.
