About us
We are the industry-led body representing UK-based financial and related professional services. We champion and support the success of the ecosystem, and thereby our members, promoting policies in the UK and internationally that drive competitiveness, support job creation and enable long-term economic growth. The industry contributes 12% of the UK’s total economic output and employs over 2.4 million people – with two thirds of these jobs outside London – across the country’s regions and nations. It pays more corporation tax than any other sector and is the largest net exporting industry. The industry plays an important role in enabling the transition to net zero and driving economic growth across the wider economy through its provision of capital, investment, professional advice and insurance. It also makes a real difference to people in their daily lives, helping them save for the future, buy a home, invest in a business and manage risk.

The International Regulatory Strategy Group (IRSG), a joint venture between TheCityUK and the City of London Corporation, responded to the Bank of England’s discussion paper on innovation in money and payments. Key takeaways from the IRSG response: 🔹 Public-Private Collaboration: Essential for advancing digital identity and tokenisation, reducing fraud, and enhancing financial efficiency. 🔹 Clear Regulatory Standards: A unified approach between the Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority is needed for stablecoin and distributed ledger technology frameworks, simplifying adoption and driving down costs. 🔹 Global Competitiveness: The UK must engage in international projects to lead in cross-border digital currency, supporting unified regulatory standards for seamless multilateral payments. Together, these steps can help position the UK as a leader in global financial innovation. 📖 Read the full IRSG response: https://lnkd.in/eJfzf_6H #TheCityUK #DigitalFinance #UKLeadership #FutureOfPayments

Following today’s Budget statement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Miles Celic, Chief Executive Officer, TheCityUK, said, “The Chancellor has fired the starting gun to deliver the government’s priorities over the next four years. Driving growth and investment remains the key challenge here in the UK. Our services sector is central to addressing this challenge, with financial and related professional services in particular a key part of the tool kit to deliver nationwide growth. The Chancellor has taken a broadly balanced approach on tax, sought to further bolster devolution and set out some positive measures to attract investment – but the detail behind the headlines is key. It is vital that these are all addressed through a lens of long-term international competitiveness. We urge the government to consult closely and swiftly with industry and we look forward to partnering with them to deliver the growth this country needs.” https://lnkd.in/eayWYg5J #TheCityUK

We were delighted to host a pre-Budget briefing event earlier today for Parliamentary researchers, sponsored by Phoenix Group. It was great to hear presentations from Timothy Fassam, Director of Public Affairs at Phoenix Group, Abdul Qureshi, Managing Director - Eagle Labs, Growth and Specialist Propositions at Barclays and Claire Coppel, Partner at A&O Shearman. We discussed several key areas, including supporting scale-up businesses, managing risk in asset management and pensions, anticipating market reactions to the Budget, engaging with MPs on constituency priorities, and tackling fraud while enhancing regulatory support. Thank you to our speakers and the parliamentary researchers who joined us for a valuable and insightful discussion. Ahead of Wednesday’s budget, you can read our proposals for driving inclusive economic growth in our Autumn Budget Submission. https://lnkd.in/esCrRhub #TheCityUK #FinancialServices #AutumnBudget

We had a great Anglo-Italian Financial Services Dialogue in Milan this week, where we discussed shared challenges in financial services, including the economic and political outlook, enhancing capital markets and competitiveness, and navigating the digital transition. A special thanks to the UK Embassy Rome for co-sponsoring our pre-dialogue dinner, at which Professor Domenico Siniscalco, Managing Director and Vice-Chairman of Morgan Stanley and former Minister of Economy and Finance in Italy, was the guest speaker. Thank you also to AIFI for hosting us at their headquarters and FeBAF for their collaboration on this significant agenda. And of course, thank you to all our members who travelled to Italy, including those from Rome who joined us in Milan, for making the dialogue both engaging and insightful. #TheCityUK #FinancialServices #AngloItalianDialogue Miles Celic | Nicola Watkinson (she/her) | Scott Devine | Ceri Martin | AIFI - Associazione Italiana Private Equity, Venture Capital e Private Debt | FeBAF (Federazione Banche Assicurazioni e Finanza

During a busy week in Washington D.C. with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and The World Bank Annual Meetings taking place, we held our first US ‘Women in Finance’ roundtable, bringing together senior women from across financial and related professional services and chaired by our Board Chair, Anne Richards DBE. There were some really insightful conversations on a range of important themes, including leadership, mentoring and the skills and further support women need to thrive in our industry. Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to the discussion and to Citi for hosting us. #TheCityUK Adrienne A.
