Earlier this week, I attended the Insider Progress UK: Women in the Boardroom(Breakfast Briefing) - Accelerate action. Hosted by Insurance Insider and EY Incredible panel discussions focusing on hiring and promoting more women into Midlevel roles and executive director roles. Although there has been a significant increase in the number of women who are currently in these male dominated roles, but there are still some grey areas and work to be done. A few things I took away with me; 🔹 Leaders should look within their team to see who is capable and give them the support, exposure, experiences and opportunities. Through mentorship, networking, self development, coaching and relationship building. 🔹Networking for support. Think about what you need to get into leadership roles 🔹Set your boundaries - Be more reflective - lead by example - be clear about what you want to do. 🔹Get out, talk to more people. Do well in your current role. Have incredible drive. Think outside the box and learning your job. 🔹Have a great support network. Having the confidence to know you don’t know everything but still put yourself out there. Build your own personal brand so when the opportunity arises you will be ready. 🔹Have someone you get advice from. Build your network on your level as this will open opportunities for you. Always be driven, be curious and again put yourself out there and work hard. 🔹Talk to your team, learn from your peers. Develop relationships. Get coaching and be intentional. Happy I attended this event as the discussions were valuable with alot of insight I can apply to my own professional Journey.

We always try, with our Insurance Insider Progress events, to ensure our delegates come away with practical knowledge to help them in their own careers, as well as to discuss meaningful ways firms can overcome barriers to women and minority groups in the sector that give senior leaders food for thought. There was SO MUCH of both these elements at our session this week. We've tried to capture as much of that practical know-how in this piece. I strongly recommend sharing it with your peers, your allies, your work bestie and even your boss. One part that stood out for me was the discussion around building 'personal boardrooms' - a group of professional contacts you can turn to for advice in areas where you lack experience.
